13th Lake Hex Report

Well the Hex has begun!!! My brother in law was at 13th last night and just came buy with pics. 3 Browns all over 16, 1 Speck about 15 and countless Bows. He said once the sun dropped over the hill **it started to get crazy. Most of his fish were caught just off the boat ramp along the weedy side of the pond. A few were taken on the beach front. Said he was using a size 8 Ausable Wulff. Of course I got Wedding Crap all weekend but maybe I can call in sick.

Fear not if you miss them you can catch them again around the end of Sept. not as heavy a hatch but thier there and they bring the trout up. Hugh

I have hit this hatch a few times just right....its an experience to say the least! How long does the hatch typically last??? Five to seven days???

To be honest I dont fish hexs there this time of year,I go to Lake Placid they got a wicked hatch up there with bigger fish .The hatch up there lasts about 2 wks from first emergence depending on the weather. Hugh

I agree with Hugh it goes about 2 weeks if your lucky. The BIG guys generally come out of hidding to feed on these drys. Its a blast if you hit it right. I guess just like any hatch though...

Cool...I will definitely have some time to get out and enjoy the hatch! I hear its a blast to go up to Mirror Lake in Lake Placid and fish it at night by the light of the village. Its not the perfect Adirondack wilderness setting but there are some big trout in that little lake!

Was up Saturday, Fished all day, got lots of rainbows on a hex nymph and missed about 40 fish. 2 1/2 colors on a lead core line doing S turns all the way down the lake. no hex's at dark, damn missed it again.

Whats 2 and a half colors??.......Would that be about 25` down or trailing behind you???

Well it could be worse, you could be in Florida.

If they just got done in 13th, Peakid and Hour should be perfect. Heck the fish will be jumpin everywhere. I think just to be sporting we should leave our rods @ home and just get real primitive. Maybe a weekend of ADK Fourm Survivor. Who's gonna catch food...who's gonna get voted off the MTN????

I have never been on the pond when the Specks were not riseing all through out the day. But come that magic time... CHAOS is good for the sole.
