My Mother Likes This Fly...So Did This Trout

    Woke up a little Groggy...
    Looked outside, it was Foggy...
    I'm goin' Fishin'.....
Jimmy Houston, I mean WB is home Wishin'....

Perfect stream conditions. Water was a bit high but great. Perfect weather, gloomy, foggy, cool. Two Red-Tails circling above me...

March Browns and Caddis' poppin, but no trout sippin'...

    Time to Trebuchet...

6 split shots later.... A lovely brown...fought hard....She does not look like a stocky. Is she wild, or did she just become wild, I just don't know.

She took my second self-tied fly... She taped out at 17".... An increase of 3" from my first trout caught on a self-tied fly...Hmm...Maybe next one will be 20"...Not as scary as a Sero brute, actually almost pretty...

Cast into the head of the pool which is below a small falls, very fast, very deep... I set a personal record... Never used 8 before, yes 8 split shots. Not even when bait-fishing...This ain't flyfishing it's river dredging...Oh heck beats mowing the lawn...

Line stops...Must be hung-up...No, line is shaking....Fish on, he isn't happy...I have no where to go... Climb down a rock into water on slippery rock..Climb up another rock....jump 2 or 3 more rocks to follow this fish... He's staying down..Another German Brown?... I can see my bugger so he took the dropper.... In deep, fast water, this large fish took a small dropper, WB'S DROPPER.

He's on for 10 minutes... Rolls violently and spits out the dropper...Never got a look at him.

Sun's coming out..What is wrong with these weathermen...All I saw was raindrops everyday for the next week...MB's and caddis keep on poppin', no trout risin'...Keep on dredging...Stayed way too long...That was it....

Everybody take a minute to think about all the vets who have served our country proudly and raise a toast to them...Especially the ones who never made it home....

Sounds (and looks) like you had a nice morning! Eight split shot....those brutes were hanging kind of deep!!! After looking at 10" stream brookies all day your pics looked HUGE man!!!! I forgot what it was like to hook a nice brown....makes me want to do some fishing on a big river!

Congrats on the big brown bro!!!

Are you sure she only went 17"?

She looks bigger.Maybe its from all the bratwurst(German, get it it german brown) she`s been eatin`.Must be her girth that throws me off.

Those pics are getting very artistic.

Keep up the great pics and fishin`.Even if it sometimes is w/out me.

I do have a 5-wt, no pickled herring, although WB likes pickled kielbasi, but i don't have any of that either.

                  No worries.

My evil-Brother-the-Butcher will supply the meat.
You and I will catch the fish, and maybe later we will burn the fine musical instruments and flyrods in the same fire.
I have a nice mandolin, a pocket trumpet, a conga drum, and a few electric guitars I gotta put a learnin' on.

If thay won't teach me; I will teach them.

                  Note to All:
marzrw and i are going fishing tomorrow.
I hope he has a nice time.
                  I hope the insects co-operate.
                  I hope he catches fish.
I hope i don't have to burn my musical instruments and his flyrod...

The only certain thing in this equation, is the quality of the meat.

PS> bring an accordian if you got one.

PPS> maybe your brother can join us next time.
Does he have bamboo rods...? They burn better...

                    Sero,
I hope you blind fold him very well.He has been known to sneak some peeks now and then.I only hope he tries this time.
Yes, if I could break away,i will next time. That is if its o.k. with you. Thanks for inviten my better half. And thank you for asking me maybe later on.
Its funny you should mention a bamboo fly rod.Yes,I`m proud owner of one that was given to me from my troutfishing mentor(Uncle Mike)from a friend of his he met during his time at war. They made good friends while in the same infantry and he sent it to my uncle from Pennsylvania after they returned homeside.I was lucky ,he wanted me to have it, I think because knowing already the blood in me smelled mostly like trout. But, I would`nt burn it ,even on the worst of days astream.

Hey,good luck to you guys and hope to hear some interesting stories later on while I`m @work.

                    Tightlines,

                      Go Marz!

That's a rad action shot of the fly, on the muddy stick... That's how a fly looks, that's it's real home environment Looks like a nice day out there.

So is this some new thing, some small poem required with every post? I should probably put a poem in the UFA post, but, here's my shot at it... haiku...

                      i love this dry fly
took me 2 hours to tie
                      put in tree, up high

                        HetY Proto--..
Thats the exact thought I had when I saw my brothers shot of that fly on the stick.Radical!! :headbang: He likes tying his woolly buggers very spikey and buggy looking.I may be tying some like that soon.Looks kind of like a wet mouse though..... See,he`s already showing me differant tying versions of the woolly B`s.
I think he`s mixing in some of his artistic capabilities w/his outings.Does open another window of perspective though. But, I hope he gets some fishing in 1st.Then the artistic shots.Especially ,when I`m there and the fishing is on.
And for the poetic side of him.I won`t even go there.I have`nt tried anything like that yet.Maybe after a few beers.
Your little Haiku makes some of my poems look like pre-school homework. The words in your poem fit me to a "T". Short and not so sweet ,but, right to the point.

It was a very nice time, great weather, actually too nice. Flies were poppin' early. Saw a few risers, one gent near us caught a nice 14". Sero blindfolded me to a few places. I can cast blindfolded, better even than without blindfold. That's my excuse for not doing better. Sporadic rises. A very small storm came through. After that flies really stopped poppin'. Went to another spot. Sero avoided a skunking catching a few. I had a few hits. One stole my nymph and another stole a good fly given to me by me unpaid guide.
I might have done better if my casting technique and presentation were better, SLOPPY,SLOPPY,SLOPPY. We fished and waited and fished pretty relentlessly. Tried to avoid the dreaded skunking by leaving the camera and net home - didn't work. Have to tell my wife I have to get out more to improve my casting. How does everyone think that will go? Probably not too well after leaving house at 7AM and getting home at 11:30PM. Can't hurt too awful much to mention it though. And people say I'm not brave.

Thanks again, kind sir for everything.

                          Poems, not really my thing.
                          Just gave it a wing.
                          Just came to my head.
After I rolled out of bed.
                          Alright, that's enough from me.

marzrw is being far too humble. He just happened to catch a day w/some very tough conditions for dry flies. A decent hatch never materialized. There were enough surface dimples to keep us fishing dries, but they were invariably 'one-rise-wonders'.
It was a tease. Finally a huge fish erupted in front of marzrw... never to be seen again. In retrospect, if a real hatch ever occured yesterday, it was unusually early in the morning, well before we got there. The previous night and early morning were very warm. The small storm later in the day, seemed to have sealed our fate.

We scoped out stretches of dry-fly water, patiently looking for the hatches that never came. This was not particularly good nymphing water. We had put our eggs in one basket, looking for big fish on dries. It was a gamble, and it didn't pay off. In fact, we walked away from small risers first thing in the morning, hoping to catch their larger cousins rising much further upstream.
Call it greedy if you will. I call it fishing.

More marzrw humility: It's a weird feeling switching to dry flies, after slinging lead. It takes awhile to re-adjust. He did very well. Case in point...
When we went back for the small guys, the water was nearly dead calm. The fish had all day to look at the offerings. A consistent slight wind (coming from the worst direction), was enough to wreak havoc on a good presentation, when it really mattered. Just getting a strike under those conditions is a real accomplishment. And marzrw did more than just get strikes. He hooked fish. {He also gets an A+ for tenacity; i think he tired the dog out}.

Marzrw, i only wish you told me that that one fish stole the fly that was working. I had more flies. I can't tell you how many fish i've broken off, setting the hook on dries, after fishing sub-surface weight for so long. You should've seen some of my spastic hook-sets. Truly embarrassing stuff.

Anyhow, Daisy and i would love to fish w/you again. I'll let you know when the Green Drakes arrive. Hopefully the fish will be going ballistic on them. Maybe then you could meet sacco and proto...

                            Cheers.
                            ...and Thanks for the Smithwicks!

i think it's pretty tough right now.

                              the hendricksons are gone.

the sulfurs, gray fox, and march browns are really hit or miss.

these are the days when caddis can really save the day, but they're not any more dependable the mayflies right now.

ofcourse, if i knew what the hell i was talking about i'd be catching more fish too!
