sargent pond fishing upper/lower

Am going up to lower sargent pond this summer and I am looking for any input regarding fishing/camping in this area. Thanks.

Check with Helms in Long Lake, they can give some good info and a better ride. Check the DEC about primitive camp sites and permits.

I fished there with my wife on our honeymoon a few years ago- fishing wasn't that great.

Supposedly stocked with trout, but we caught bass and perch.

The wildlife was great, however!

Lower Sargent Pond seems like it is a lot more popular than Upper Sargent (& Middle Sargent for that matter) imo.
Perhapse it is because of the lean-to, which is often filled with trash as are a few of the other campsites at Lower Sargent.

Float planes use Lower Sargent Pond more often than Upper, and they are known for bringing in the lazier folks who don't want to walk the easy 2 miles, or carry out their own trash.

Upper Sargent is much better.
...A few nice (cleaner) campsites, a good irregular shoreline which makes for some decent fishing, less traffic, and if your lucky you may find a boat and/or a canoe hidden.

Or a small navy, as I recall from my last visit. Lakes like that make me feel silly when I show up with a Hornbeck.

The fishing can be hit or miss, and as far as camping goes it depends on what you want to do. You can hike in and stay at one of the sites at the pond, there are a few first come first serve campsites on the road in, or you can stay at forked lake campground which is on the way in also. Lots of options depending on what you are looking for.

Thanks all for the info. I wasn't aware that there were lean tos on upper. I can live with hit or miss fishing. I went to forked lake last year, I that area is really nice. I was planning on carrying my canoe in. The are canoes already there?

There are no lean-tos at Upper, only one at Lower.

...both easy hikes for carrying in a light weight canoe,
but yes, found a couple last fall...just need to look around, and please return them as you found them & please keep it clean...

Thank you for the update, I thought there was the one lean to on lower pond. I think that is awsome that there is a canoe there , I will probally haul mine in though. I am a firm believer in carry in carry out so no worries there. Thanks again. I can't wait to get up there. Ill let everyone how I make out in terms of the fishing hopefully with some pictures as well .

Spent 5 days at upper saregent pond, got back a few weeks ago. The area is awsome. We wound up staying at upper. Very easy hike in, we found lower to be a bit crowded for my taste. We were at lower for 2 hours and there were 3 groups that showed up. Although lowre is a littlemore pristene upper was just as nice and where we stayed the were 0 people that wandered through our camp. As for the fishing at upper I caught a couple really fat. Smallies, and a few huge large mouths. (Pics to follow)I only caught one decent size small mouth at lower, although I was only there for a few hours. Unfortanatley I did not catch any trout, maybe they got all fished out idk for a stocked area iam suprised. All in all it was an awesome trip. The adirondacks never disapoint.

P.s there are some very large bull head in upper we had a blast reeling those guys in. They hit almost as soon as the line hit the water, all of them we well over 14 incehs. Thanks adam

Hi, I am planning a trip to Upper Sargent. I noticed there is a trail to Upper from "North Point Road". Is this the one you took in? It seems to be about 1.5 miles:

Also, on Google earth I saw a car parked on the side of North Point Road as there is no parkinglot. Should it be ok to park there overnight for 2 nights?

There is room for a couple vehicles to park on the shoulder at the trailhead(s).
I've parked there for a couple days before and had no problems.

In my experiences at the Sargent Ponds, Lower Sargent Pond seems to be much more popular than Upper Sargent Pond...perhaps that is because there is a lean-to at Lower Sargent, and a few nice campsites around the shore.
There is a campsite at the end of the trail at Upper Sargent, and there is another more secluded campsite a little further down on the north shore towards the west end.
There's also another campsite in the southwest corner of Upper Sargent, and one on the island too I think.
Not sure if there are any campsites at Middle Sargent or not...you don't see Middle Pond from the trail.

The announcement and discussion underway in THIS THREAD will help address the highlighted sentences above. Brookies just can't compete with the bass that were introduced into the Sargent Ponds.
