    Crappie Fishing

The crappie are running in my neck of the woods. SDG75 and myself caught some lunkers. Here is a pic of the 12 inch beauty. We caught about 30 of them in just under 2 hours. Awesome day for fishing

    Keep them tips up!

Wow, if those crappie were all that big, those are great eating. You must`ve got some nice fillets out of them.Good job. I ate to say it,but,if you`ve ever had walleye, perch or crappie they are tastier ,hands down,to our beloved trout.Although some fresh smaller native brookies can make the tongue quiver. Enjoy!!!!!

I think the smallest one we kept was around 9 inches! As time progressed and we got into the bigger ones we let the smaller guys go.

The fillets are about 1 inch thick unbelievable. I am going back tomorrow and hopefully catch some more. Here is PA the limit is 50 and no size limit. Someone just told me that NY put a 9 inch size limit on Crappie is this true?

I think its a good idea actually. You should have seen the people keeping the 4 inch guys. To me there not worth ths hassle. I had a hard enough time filleting the big ones.

I think the crappie have to be at least 9" and no more than 25 of them. The other panfish species can be any size and a 50 fish limit of each species.Hope this helped and hope you get back into them tomorrow. They make for a great fish fry in your backyard.Even the women will eat those tasty creatures.

That certainly sounds like a crappie day fishing. I talk to some guys down by me in Harriman state park that say the crappie fishing is crappy right now. NY's limit is 9" and 25, NJ is 8" and 10. PA should follow suit, you can't keep a fishery going if you don't have size limits, or hatcheries that dump sh*t tons of stockies in the water, especially if the fish is palatable. No wonder the largemouths have taken over. Blecch!
