Has anybody ever fished Lewey LakeIndian Lake area) before?I was thinking of trying it soon.Sounds like a nice quiet lake this time of year.Thanks.

Whenever I've driven by there in the winter, people are setup at the sw end of the lake where the Miami river comes in. I read somewhere that this is where people catch salmon.
Thank you Creekwader, that is great news.I am looking for some other ice-fishing places where there are`nt expensive camps and houses all along the shoreline. Its nice to have tranquility and seclusion, sometimes.I`ll let you know if and when I get there to try it.Salmon ,hmmm, sounds interesting! Thanks again.

yes monster fish in those waters...a tricky lake to fish but the landlocks are in there..a hot spot is.....down lake shore drive near the lakestore of of route 30 ..drive down that road there it connects back up with 30 ..you'll see a few people i sure right were the road is right along side of the lake is a hot spot and its a less traveled road so good for parking ...just a thought...
I think I`ll give it a try saturday or sunday. How do the salmon get in Lewey if theres no stocking report of salmon? Is it through the little connecting river between the two lakes? Is Lake shore road down the south end of the lake?I was thinking of parking at the campground and hiking down the lake near where the Miami river comes in.But that road should save alot of dragging of my gear.

well thats just the spot i use like i say the lake is hard to fish ..more like alot of lake trout in there ..the landlock salmon are locked in there they maintian there own population ....
Ashton...are you talking about Indian Lake or Lewey? I don't recall any store near Lewey.
I think he must be.
The Lake Store is in Sabael, and Lake Shore Drive parallels the Western Shore of Indian Lake.
Of course Lewey feeds into Indian Lake.

yes i was talking indian lake can't say much about lewey lake ...except that as redhawk said they connect .....so the salmon are locked in between lewey and to the end of the lake ....best of luck to you ... if your thinking of the landlocks the locals really say it a hard body of water to fish ........most people set up for the hole winter and fish the same spot waiting for them to come bye with luck....i don't really think there is a hot spot ......i just like that spot of indian lake and have had luck there with some good lake trout ...would be nice to know if you have any luck on lewey thow ......
I am mostly pursuing the wily brown trout and very elusive landlock salmon through the ice. But, I won`t mind getting flags from the strong running lakers that are in there also.Lewey is said to have all three species in there.Still have`nt made it there.Hopefully this weekend coming up.I`ll keep you posted creekwader.

I was going to mention but I figured you left already, but that Miami River is full of brook trout further upstream and it might be worthwhile to set some tipups in shallow on the shelf where it comes in. The landlockeds might be in there too. I'm talking less than 5 fow.
CW- Thats a great idea! I always wanted to get lucky and pull a brookie through the ice. Thanks for the information.
Also, where is this Spruce Lake? What species of fish are in it?Sounds pretty difficult to get into.Later.

WB- Spruce is on the NTP between Piseco and the West Canadas...the state puts something like 5000 Brookies in it a year. It's not all that hard to get into and is a beauty of a spot. Once I figure out how to catch fish there, I'll only like it more!
