  • NPT Shuttle is under new management

I have just transferred the Northville Placid Shuttle to another person, also a long time member of this forum. I'll let him announce his ownership if and when he is ready.

I will still be involved in some of the southern shuttles, but hawk Vittles is taking up too much of my time to allow me to be as flexible as I was in the past.

I am confident that clients will be provided with A-one service as they have been in the past. I believe the rates will stay the same.

The new Addy to contact the shuttle is shuttle.npt@gmail.com

Will those of you who have a link to the NPTShuttle on your websites please change it to reflect the new email address?

    Thanks,
    Hawk

    Thanks,

Ready or not, we may as well make this official. I will be handling the NPT shuttles effective immediately.

The new email address, given above in Hawk's OP, can also be accessed in my signature line. The old address should automatically forward to me, but I encourage all to please update to the new address.

Hawk, I congratulate you for the success of your Hawk Vittles venture (and it's no wonder... they're awesome!!), and I thank you for offering me the opportunity to serve the NPT hiking community as new operator of the NPT shuttle service.

    Thanks to all,
    Tom

        NPT shuttle no longer available

        NPT hikers,

I regretfully must inform you that I will no longer be available for hiker shuttles. Shuttles already booked will be honored.

At this time I do not have any additional information regarding alternatives. As more information becomes available I will post it on this thread. I would very much appreciate if those of you who find alternative arrangements would forward that information to me so that I can add it to this message.

It has been my pleasure to provide this service to the hiking community over the past five years.

Anyone with an interest in carrying on the tradition of this service please contact me.

        Tom

Northville Lake Placid Trail Shuttle Service *

          Good evening,
I have just moved to the Village of Northville, NY... the start of the trail! I was looking at this website and noticed that there was/are transportation needs either not be met; being met; or were uncertain. I would like to express my interest in resuming this fee based service if in fact there is a need for it? I just moved here from Vermont and am a comfortable outdoorsman. I used to camp and hike the Adirondacks in my adolescent years so I think this would be a great opportunity if there lies one!
My email is cvgutier@gmail.com if you receive this message and check the website during the winter....

                April 22nd/23rd - Shuttle Possibility?

I am coming down to hike the NPT at the end of April with a friend.

                Any information on shuttle availability?

Also any information of trail conditions?

                Thanks.

I can't tell you anything about the northern sections, ie snow, etc., but here's a video on crossing W. Stony Creek in the newest section near Northville. Lots of things can change in a couple of weeks, for better or worse, but this can give you an idea of the crossing you'll have to make.

Hiking the Northville Lake Placid Trail from Benson to Northville.

Also a thread on BC skiing. Look for the post by Nutmeg Creeker. He skied near Lake Durnat and reported 2 feet of base. Might melt, might not.

                    Thanks very much.
We'll probably have to avoid the first section of the trail because of the water level.
                    Good to know.

                        creek crossing

If your wearing water shoes can you cross? How deep is it? I can't tell from the video. I'M going to thru hike the trail early May and was planning on doing this section which would be on the first day.

It's going to be hard to say how deep it will be. It depends on the weather. As said in the video, you can get a good idea of how deep it is by going to the jct. of Benson Rd. and Rt.30 just north of Northville.

We didn't have a big snow pack to melt this spring and there is none left in that neck of the woods, so I wouldn't expect the crossing to be a big problem. Cold, yes, but not overly deep.

Yes, I would take some water shoes or something similar.

BUT we could get a week of rain just before you go...

                            Shuttle Response.

                            FYI:
I've sent two requests to the provided email: shuttle.npt@gmail.com

With no responses over this week, we took to craigslist and found that we've had a lot of responses fairly swiftly. Now we just have to decide who will be our ride vs. who might be a murderer.

Thanks to those who are trying to keep the shuttle service going.
Though we may not use it this time, we really appreciate your efforts.

MattLee: what did you end up finding out? Who did you go with to get a lift from? Please let me know -- we're looking for a ride in late August. Thanks!
