With low water flow conditions, like now, step across some rocks. When I climbed May 3 this year it was easy though possibly more water overflowing North Pond.

I'd say it was a bit easier of a hike than Goodnow, with somewhat less impressive views. Which is not to say that the views from Swede are bad by any measure, it just doesn't have that same 360 degree panorama with the High Peaks up close.

(Of course, in that regard Goodnow pales in comparison to Adams still...)

Agreed. I think the closer one behind Stevens is Hoffman and the cone shape just to the right of that (also beyond Stevens) could be Santanoni or Seward.

In the closer range, I am at a loss for which Brother and Number is which, but Treadway is over on the far right.

    My guesses:

The one with lots of exposed rock looks to be Stevens Mtn. The one to its right, a little further away that breaks the horizon looks to be Pharaoh. The horizon peak just left of Pharaoh looks to be Marcy.

I made the trip up with two others on Friday after most of the clouds had burned off and were rewarded with fairly clear skies. This thread started about the time I attended a wedding at Jimbo's on Brant Lake and I was disappointed that weekend we couldn't include a trip up. What a treat to finally get there, thanks for all the updates and info.

On the way up the trail I saw my first Adirondack bear (after 40 years of camping/hiking/biking/paddling). It was a cub that scurried up a tree just a few feet off the trail. We did not stick around to spot an adult so no picture. No sign of either on the descent.

If anyone cares to ID some of the peaks in the view, I wouldn't object as I was uncertain about far more than those I think I know.

How do you cross the outlet? I tried to go there once but wasn't really sure. It was last winter and I wasn't sure how thick the ice was or how deep the outlet was. Haven't been back this year yet.

Wow, that's really nice looking work. Those are the kind of steps hikers will use, rather than going around. (I hope the wood is pressure treated, so it will last.)

Who did the work, if I can ask? It looks great, and whoever did it deserves to get credit.
