Looking for any information in regards to access for the Stillwater fire tower. Through my research, it looks like the TH was supposed to moved and a partial reroute. I saw some information leading me to believe that this was partially done. I believe that it is still accessible due to easement. Any information is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

In the July/August issue of the Explorer, I describe a short hike to the Stillwater Mountain fire tower. Once the tower is rehabilitated, this will be a nice outing for the general public, but the state Department of Environmental Conservation warns that the tower should not be climbed in the meantime. DEC spokesman Stephen Litwhiler […]
Seems like they are in the process of restoring it.

Just as a follow up for anyone that stumbles across this thread. My son and I were able to hike it. I spoke with the ranger for the area first. Officer Evans, I believe. He was very pleasant and helpful. There is new trail flagged, but not finished. It starts a tenth or 2 farther down the road than the old trail. We lost the "trail" at one point, so it turned into a bit of a whack. The top half of the trail is the same as the old trail. The tower itself is "under restoration" and should NOT be climbed. There were no views from the summit and we did not find any other view points. It's just over 1 mile with about 500 feet of gain to the summit.ADKHP: 46/46 34W

Restoration in the works
A new stewardship group joining with DEC was formed 7/27/15, with much greater DEC investment than occurred with the group that started in 2009 and fizzled. Wahoo!
I am coordinating, and will use ADK Forum and Facebook to try and keep those interested in the loop.
I live at Stillwater, and my wife's family ties here go back to 1901, before the first concrete dam was constructed. We WILL see this through!
Contact from those who may be able to pitch in is welcomed.
