    Lean-tos availability

    Heya,
I was wondering what the general availability of the lean-tos at marcy dam usually is at this time; and weekend (Fri/Sat nites) versus weekdayish (Sun nite, weekday nights)? Thanx!

    Hi! Welcome to the forums.

Most traffic is on the weekends, so you're correct to assume that Fri and Sat nights will be more packed than during the weekdays. It's first come first serve, so bring a tent/tarp/bivy just in case they're full.

The good news is that during the winter months the overnight traffic is greatly reduced at the dam, so you'll probably have no problems getting a spot (but better to be safe than sorry, eh?).

I went through there last weekend, and they were all pretty much empty. Lots more dayhikers in the winter months.

It also depends on whether the bears are sleeping in or out.....

I've never seen them all filled during the winter. I agree with the better safe than sorry but there are almost always empty lean-tos there this time of year.
