I know a guy up the road from you in Keene Valley who just finished the 46 high peaks in 4 day hikes. Consecutive days too! And he not only loves tourists, he loves people in general. A class act.
    Scooting here and there
Through the woods and up the peaks

We are all looking forward to the day we can congratulate you on completing the 46. But if you had read this book you could have saved $25:

        Alternate List

I also live in Keene and do some High Peaks hiking now and then. We should get together sometime and pound some mud!

Here is an alternate list which completes the 46 in 11 day hikes and leaves you 9 days for rest and weather. Consecutive day plans have the problem of weather (this year, frequent showers and thunderstorms--I don't want to be a human lightning rod). This list minimizes total ascent (about 69,000 feet) and distance (209 miles) as day hikes. You could also move some of the hikes around to make 12 or 13 day hikes, but this adds some ascent and miles. The top three are >7000 feet ascent, the others are "only" 5000-6000 feet per day. They are listed in descending order of total ascent--the Dixes and Santanonis are the easiest at 5000 feet !

        Enjoy .

          Dix Marathon, shave a day.

Elk Lake-5 Dixes - whack Dial - NTop - Colvin - Blake - Pinnacle Ridge - Elk Lake.

Extra jam sammy a definite asset.

Or, just to mix things up there's always the "Scooter Special": Sawtooth - Upper Lake- Haystack - Basin - Saddleback - etc. to LWJ.

The hiker's most important pieces of gear: endurance, hard headedness.

Owning 867 pieces of gear might be fun but carrying it would be a lot less so.

This is just a typical list for people without a lot of free overnight days (no wife / kid / job issues), and people who have drive into hike. If days camping aren't an issue, just break the peaks in 4 regions, bring a sleeping bag, and knock them out.

This isn't my list, ( I bushwack more than I bag peaks) this list is to keep the people who left the Power Bar wrapper on Marshall, the can of empty bug spray at Avalanche Lake, the 20 plus candy wrappers on the way up Cliff, the Pepsi can at Pitchoff, those who strip cedar bark for fires and the countless broken ski poles (how is that not noticed?), all of which I take out. Figure if I minimize their trips to the High Peaks, better for me.

4 days is intense, what are the combos? Sewards have to be a day, Dixes have to be a day and Santos a day. Can hike from Santos to Sewards but I dont think they can be hiked together in a day. Attach Allen to Redfield or Skylight. How is Rocky Peak Ridge / Giant to Esther / Whiteface plus the Range only another day?

On day 4 he did Allen first and then the Santas. He then drove over to Elk Lake and did the Dixes.

The Santas and Sewards have been done as a day hike by bushwhacking off of Couch over to the Cold River and around to the Sewards.
