Rollins Pond trail to Lead/Deer Ponds

Last week I tried to bike from Rollins Pond to Lead/Deer Ponds (located south of Rollins). I expected to only be able to bike part of the way and have to hike the rest.

I took the service road just before the gate (near the swamp monster perch) and biked for maybe a half mile before I came to a large (several acres) field with no obvious direction to go. I explored the perimeter of the field and found no obvious trail. The Discover series of guidebooks (Northern Adirtondacxks 2nd edition) mentions this trail, but does not mention this field. As a side curiosity, does anybody know the purpose of this field?

Has anybody made it to these ponds from this direction? Are these ponds worth visiting? What type of shoreline do they have – are they good for swimming? I plan to be back at Rollins Pond next week and will consider trying again.

    turn around!

My son and I made the mistake last year of asking the Ranger at Rollins Pond if we could bike to Deer Pond. He claimed the trail is clear and should be a nice ride. It was horrible! There is a faint trail on the other side of the field which leads to a marsh with lots of water. But, even worse than that was the beaver damage at Deer Pond. We had to wade with the bikes over our heads.

The trails are better around the other ponds (Floodwood, Middle, Pollywog, ets.) but they still need alot of work if you want to stay on the bike.
