    Hello Everyone

For all the years I have spent enjoying the outdoors, and going to Sabbattis as a kid, I never knew about this forum. Anyways, My names Rich, and what brought me here is me and my brother have planned a trip in the adirondaks for may 19-25th. We are not 100% sure where we want to go, so I am hoping someone here can help.

We are both very experianced when it comes to camping. Both grew up in boyscouts, and did a lot of local camping without scouts. Now its a bit different, as we are goint to try and set out like so.

We plan to use my Jeep as a basecamp type thing.
We are bringing our mountainbikes with us, and decided that we want to try and base half the trip off this.
We will more or less backpack, as in the Jeep will only be used in emergencies.
We have purchased several things so far, such as lighter/more compact sleeping bags, a very light, but durable 2 man tent, and some other odds and ends to make the packs lighter.

Any suggestions/input would be very appreciated. Thanks

Good to be here. Time to start really browsing.

OH! Anyone else having issues with the search feature? Keeps kicking back saying some kind of SQL error or something for me.

What is your goal? Just camp out, stay at or near a state campground, or just be out in general? Stay at a campground as sorta a base camp and then bike around or maybe go out for a couple days backpacking with a secure place for your travel gear?

To be honest, we want to avoid campgrounds. We want to officially "Rough" it. However, since Im in Central NY, 3 hours away, we need a place to park the jeep. I have read we need a permit UNLESS we are in 1 site for less than 3 days, which we will be. Each place we set camp for the night will be different. We will always be on the move.

Just Noticed, were N Syracuse as well. Just out of Mattydale

        Mr. Skizzle,
There are a relatively limited number of areas that allow mountain bikes. They cannot be used in any widerness area at all, but there are some old roads that can be biked.
You could bike into the Santononi Preserve, it's a 5 mile trip to a great camp.
There are many miles of dirt roads available in the Moose River Recreation Area and a really broad selection of trails, lower peaks, and waters to visit and camp near. There are also many roadside campsites from which you could locate your base camp Jeep.
And welcome to the forum, you'll find tons of first hand information here...

Check out Wakely Dam,use that as a base camp, there is the NP Trail to hike on, you could hike back to carry leanto or you could ride your mntn bikes on the seasonal dirt roads, not sure where they go, but the trail is nice, carry leanto is in a nice spot.

          good luck
