    Snowshoe to Chase Lake

    Hello Fellow Adirondack Lovers,

Yesterday I had a nice snowshoe trip to
Chase Lake from Pinnacle Road. For those of
you looking for a beginner trail, this is a good
choice. Access is easy and the trail is fairly
flat most of the way, with only one short uphill
    climb. It's five miles, RT.

My precious dog Dandy and I had the trail
completely to ourselves. However, the trail
must have had some use over the weekend,
as it was well broken. The sun was shining
and it became immediately clear that I was
waaaayyyy overdressed. I was ready to strip
down to my undies!!! (Chill out guys, Victoria's
Secret does not make long underwear!)

The trail was pretty mushy on account of the
temps. I hiked this trail once in the summertime,
but you sure can see a lot more in the winter.
Once I got to the lean-to, I was amazed at the
actual size of the lake. In the summer, there's
so much vegetation that you really can't get
a feel for it. I was kicking myself for not starting
out in the morning, as I would have loved to have
time to explore the shore of the lake. As it was,
I only spent a half an hour there, and just got
out of the woods as it was getting dark. There was
easily 3 ft of snow on top of the lean-to.Sorry, no
pictures. I've gotta get a digital camera.....

    Hi,
Sounds like a nice trip. Were the stream crossings frozen? Would the trail be in skiable condition?

No, the crossings weren't frozen, but the ones without
bridges weren't very wide and easy to step over. Someone
had been out skiing before me, so it was clearly skiable then.
It's been very warm and rainy since then, so I don't imagine
the trail is in very good condition now.
