    Weekend ski trip

    Hello everyone,

My friend and I are planning on a backcountry ski trip this weekend. We are not using full tele gear but he is somewhat of a tele ski instructor and will be showing me a few things. I'm not that good of a skier. Also, he is in Old Forge and I am in Plattsburgh. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to go about midway between the 2 areas? We are thinking of checking out Camp Santinoni right now. I know nothing about it. What about the High Falls on the Oswegatchie trail from Wanakena? Any advice would be great.

Try the trip from Axton Landing to Raquette Falls, the trail head is off the Corey's rd, (south off route 3; it's on the right a little past where Stoney Creek passes under the Corey's road) It's an intermediate endeavor with a few lean-to's along the way and there's the old ranger station to check out too, along with the falls.

Camp Santanoni is more of a beginner trip, while 10 miles round trip, it's relatively flat.

The Calamity Brook trail from Upper Works to Flowed Lands has plenty of ups/downs and some steep and narrow stretches to be a good learning experience.

Thanks to both of you. I think the Calamity Brook trail is my best option. I would like to check out that trail to Raquette Falls sometime though.

I wish I had more info on the High Falls trail too.

Nice pictures! I ended up skiing the High Falls trail up as far as High Rock. It was unbroken but we had a blast. It really wasn't a good trail to learn tele turns on but I hadn't seen my friend in about 5 years so it was good anyway. I do want to hit the Calamity trail this year.
