i have. its a great hike. its from the ausable club, not inn. it is a full day hike. its depends--if you can get the ausable club shuttle to the lower lake, you'll cut off 4 miles, if not, you'll have to walk down the dirt road for 4 miles. I have walked it before and taken the shuttle. it is reserved for club members, but if you have the nerve you can walk into the clubhouse like you own the place and go up to the front desk and purchase tickets. i believe they are $3 per person. The shuttle is rarely full and i tell myself that they are wasting gas if they dont have a full busload. Add pyramid, gothics, armstrong and maybe upper wolf jaw depending on your pace and time and you have a full day probably 14 miles. I am a pretty fast hiker and i recall coming down from upper wolf jaw in the dark--but i am not sure when i started. this is all off of memory. you should at least do sawteeth, gothics, pyramid and armtrong if you are into bagging peaks. they are so close to each other and dont add too much to the time. take the scenic route up sawteeth.

The trail between Upper Ausable Lake and Sawteeth is a gem, especially the upper portion where you will have rare and beautiful views of Saddleback and Basin with all the slides.

I did the hike in reverse. ie from the AMR road up to Sawteeth and down to UAL. In fact I am unsure about getting legal access any other way.

After the Lake I went via Bartlett Ridge to Haystack and then closed the loop by going down from Gothics to the Gothics-Sawtooth col and back down the road. It was a long day, especially as it wound up being a rainy and chilly September day.

Don't plan on the shuttle, its a service for club members only. I've (by accident really) been able to get ticket not being a club member, but it's not something you should expect or plan on. It's not just something ANYBODY can do

Are you saying that you started at The A-club, hiked Sawteeth, went down to the upper lake then went over Bartlett Ridge, up HAYSTACK, BASIN, SADDLEBACK and the GOTHICS................. all in 1 DAY

That not something an AVERAGE PERSON can do. Shame on you for even implying it. I don't even think I can beleive anything you say at this point.

Actually I was supposed to continue on to Lower Wolf Jaw. However I am a conservative guy and due to the foul weather and being all alone I decided to bail down to the Lake road from Gothics.

On Haystack it was blowing a gale and pelting rain. Near the Haystack-Little Haystack col I met 2 guys in gym clothes and without packs who were heading up. I implied that they might not have a lot of fun up there and they decided to turn back.

I said it was for club members only--if you had the nerve you could try. hey, ive done it and i'll do it again. its silly to have that shuttle driving all the way out if it isnt full. i dont know--i have heard conflicting messages. i have heard that keene valley residents can use it, in which case i am ok. but i have also heard they cant. to me, its worth a try. the four miles on the dirt road gets pretty long, especially on the way out!

That's a pretty good idea. Never thought of it.

Yes, I read it, but just wanted to "be the voice of reason" and say that you are likely not to be allowed on and so plan on "hoofing it" and if you get lucky, super.

I've done it both ways. Walking in like you own the place works (sometimes), but if you can grab a kid (of about 8-10 y/o) it'll work better. Tell them you want "out to the lake" {then tell the bus driver to drop you at a TH}. Like I said, it works sometimes, other times, they say "get out of here, or we'll call the effing cops"

                  just saying.

When you climb Sawteeth go up the Weld Trail and descend the Scenic. I highly recommend this route. Make sure you take the side trip to Rainbow Falls as well. Here are pics from my trip if you are interested.
