If after having hiked 50% of the horizontal part of a there and back hike I had done 5/6ths of the total vertical ascension where was I?

        You're on the right track.
        Here's another clue.
Total elevation gain = 3600 feet.

Why, I beleive you are at the top of Iroquois Peak.
From Loj (2179') to the peak of Iroquois (4840') is a releif of 3135 counting Algonquin. .
3135 divided by 5 times 6 = 3762 The change between 3762 and 3135 ( 627 or 1/6th total elevation) is roughly the gain you need to make it back over Algonquin to get home.

Why, I believe your a little too far west. BTW when I said 3600 feet I was counting gross gain and not net.

                Nope.
                Obviously we're looking a 2 summits.
When getting onto #1 for the first time you've done 42% of your day's total horizontal.

WEll I am trying to fit RPR from Rte 73 into the mold, but I can;t quite get it to fit. I looked at Colvin and Blake from Ausable, but I can't the numbers to add up. I also looked at Gothics (with the out point being on Gothics and doing Saddleback on the return)from JBL. The number seem to fit, but it isn't exactly a return trip
So OK, I goot aget some work done. I am curious though. tough one Neil!

After 42% horizontal, 2400 feet have been ascended.
                    After 50%, 3000
                    After 58%, 3600
                    All downhill from there.

Note, my vertical feet is based on counting lines on the map and may not be as exact as your calculations. My horizontal calculations are quite precise however.

Duh, Neil My Bad. I won't tell you say which it was, only that I added 1,000 feet elev to the starting elev, when I copied the numbers into a spreadsheet. After I took the thou out, (the first 2 numbers in the starting el changed from 26 to 16) and it worked out.
                      I'll PM you

Well, as a newbie here, I must say, y'all nuts!

Just kidding of course, honestly, I'm a little jealous that I'm not familiar enough with the ADK to even take an uneducated guess, but I will be eventually. Maybe I'm the nutty one here, consciously heading in this direction!
