Hi there,
I'm looking for more info on the rock shelter found on the dog pond loop, on Curtis Pond I think it is (the pond closest to Cranberry Lake). We tripped over it/one last fall doing the loop and thought it might be a good destination and a cool place to sleep. The one I saw last fall would be at the top of a ridge, on the left if you're going towards the lake.
Couple of questions...
1) I'm a bad judge of distance. Is that really 150 ft from the trail?
2) Any of the maps I've looked at seem to indicate there's a shelter on a point on the side of the pond closest to the lake, without a trail. You can see it here (hopefully the link works) http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=...27&layer=DRG25
This corresponds to what is in the ADK book as well. My guess is the maps are either a bit off because the rock shelter I'm describing above clearly doesn't correspond to the location on the maps and in the trail description OR I need to look a bit harder. Can anyone confirm either of my suspitions?
Any input? Thanks!
Chris
