    Avalanche Trap Dyke

Today I passed in front of Trap Dyke, there was an avalanche precisely at this place. I do not when it append. All the trees have been swept in front of it.
Here is two pics of that avalanche.

so that gap in the trees wasnt there before?

Yes the gap was always there. But it is very apparent with the downed trees below, that an Avalanche swept through the Dike.

It is a very steep section and not surprised to hear of an Avalanche.

I think this is maybe a consequence of the avalanche and it probably happened around 2:30am on 15 March.

            Wow....
That easily buried the first tier on the Trap Dyke. I like to go up it once or twice a year, and have practically memorized where all the rocks/boulders are. Guess my next trip will be more of an adventure then a workout. I wonder if this will increase the challenge?

I think I'll show my mom those pictures, she loves getting worried sick when I tell her I'm climbing it

            *edit*
Something just dawned on me... this is gonna cause a ton of damage if it worked all the way up to the lean-to. Usually lean-to's are on a hill, and then elevated on either concrete or wood (I dunno, I don't normally crawl under them). I wonder how this is gonna effect the trail, the ladders, the catwalk, etc.

Yes, very nice pictures. I wonder if they will be skiing on the lake? May be they could shovel a path.

Where? on the south side of the lake?(the opposite side of Colden). FYI, the water level had not change, not that I know or have seen it friday.

                    YVON,
                    Great pictures.
Nature is so beautiful and destructive.
And there is even beauty in the destruction.

Hope no one was hurt in that.

Wow! So it went right across the lake? That is amazing.

Connie Bear, the trap dyke is a cleft in the rock on the west side of Mount Colden. The pictures you see here were taken from Avalanche Lake.

Very scary stuff, I hope no body was hurt when that snow decided to come down.

Thanks Yvon, your pictures are a good reminder that this stuff does happen here in the Adirondacks.
