I've hiked and skied Marcy before and have considerable backcountry experience both winter hiking and skiing. I am limited most by exposed ice, as I don't really have good crampons at the moment. It seems from other reports here and elsewhere that the route up Marcy from ADK Loj is mostly covered by snow now. Has anyone gone up since the last storm? What are snow depths like on the trails? Is the summit cone still encased in glare-ice?? I want to do a full day of exploring on Wednesday or Thursday and love roaming randomly in the snow as much as making turns, but do not feel like battling dangerously icy conditions without proper gear.
Any suggestions?
(I'm most familiar with Marcy, but open to nearby areas as well, coming from central VT.)
