    St. Regis Mountain, need crampons?

    Hi,

I was planning to hike St. Regis Mountain on Sunday. Are snowshoes going to be suffiecent, or do I need crampons as well?

    Thanks,
    Jon

There are really no open rock slabs except the summit itself so snowshowes should be sufficient. We have done St Regis several times in the winter and only used snowshoes. In fact one time when we were up there in late October we watched snow clouds move in below us. It was awesome to watch brightly colored leaves turn white.

I'll second that, I've hiked it in the winter and was fine with just snowshoes.

Crampons are not necessary on St. Regis in wintertime.
