They were fine until Nick Saban polymorphed into a Dolphin and replaced with a Cowboy.

In ref. to the original post, I think Zach answers it best in post #2. Be aware and cognizant that other will be out there sharing the woods and you'll be fine. I've hiked for many years during hunting season, in the ADKs and southern tier. Other than stated precautions and perhaps curbing my b-whack travels a bit, I never worry.

    Go out and enjoy

OK,message(s) received. Thanks for the workout, everyone. Going to Cedar River Flow for a solo canoe trip this weekend. I'll be testing my new Hennessey Asymm Hammock to see how it performs in cold, rain & snow-which is predicted. Best,Hoplophile.

    Hi everyone:

The original poster's question had to do with hiking safety during hunting season. While some thread drift is inevitable at times, please try to remain on topic. Disagreements are fine, but Please do so in a polite and civil manner. Consider your posts carefully before sending them, and remember that there are real people on the "other side of the screen," and that it is easy to misunderstand - and be misunderstood in this "cyberspace" environment. Thanks.

^^ I think that is your problem. The comment "drunken hunters" was included in a light hearted post meant to be a joke... and was taken as such by the majority of the community here. It was not commentary and certainly didn't deserve the blocks of confrontational text that you have thrown out in an attempt to deliver a "pointed rebuttal".

I echo the sentiment... lighten up.

Let's see....forum heading="Hunters vs hikers"=sounds inherently antagonistic to me. I do both-perhaps not all that well as far as my hunting prowess is concerned. I neither drink, drug, nor smoke-altho in a free society it's everyone's right to do so. I do,however, resent any given legal activity or group of people being maligned or negatively stereotyped. Words-use of language are what separates us from the lower primates. Ergo, they have consequences. Insult a person or group by impolite or thoughtless use of language & expect to get called on it. Simple reality check-welcome to the world. My point being that no group has a monopoly on virtue. We could all recount outdoor horror story vignettes about encountering individuals w/bad manners & boorish behavior. Proper response would be to criticize the behavior not perceived ethical shortcomings of the group. I don't particularly like being insulted by proxy,& I'm not shy about complaining when I am. Use of sarcasm="uncivil"? Since when? Public discourse is what it is-acrimonious at times. Seems to me if one is prepared to dish out commentary ridiculing others("drunken hunters") one had best be prepared to receive a pointed rebuttal in return. What else? Oh,yes...my public particulars. So what? Would they have been better received if I had included PETA or The Brady Forum. Actually, kudos to whomever googled that info on me. I DON'T have a blog euphemistically entitled "journal",however, which is quite explicitly political & is clearly beyond the scope of this posting. Is membership in certain groups mandatory for participation in this forum or simply de rigueur?
