    Pine Orchard trail, Wells

Anyone hiked this trail lately? It has been many years since I've been there and the guidebooks on it are now old . . . just wondering if beaver activity has altered or made impassable the trail. Looking for an easy hike with my puppy in the Wells area . . .also thought of Bennett Lake, Cod Pond, Murphy Lake.

    Thanks

It's still passable. The triple lakes is a great hike this time of year as well. I especially like the back side of Middle Lake under the hemlocks.

I did the trail earlier this summer. To be honest, and I might be the only one who feels this way, I didn't find the trees to be breath taker. They were nice, but so are other huge pines found deep in wilderness areas. The trail is flat and straight, a great dog walker trail!!!
I cherish the outdoors. Its the adventure, the unknown, and the call of the wild that gives me its thrill, passion, and deepest respect.

I hiked into Pine Orchard yesterday (Sept. 4th) after hiking up Snowy. It's a very nice hike - I believe it was 2.4 miles one-way. Regarding the puppy, be sure to have a leash, because visitors park on private property and the start of the hike is over private property. Regarding beaver activity, the trail passes one breached beaver dam, which does not affect the trail.

By the way, there's a new restaurant in Wells (the proprietors are friends of friends of mine). I can't remember the name of the place - [Something] Grille. Hawk, do you know the name? During lunch in Wells I met some very nice people and bought a couple raffle tickets for St. Ann's Christmas raffle - Grand Prize is an Adirondack quilt.

I give Pine Orchard and Wells

I think it's Lakeside Grille ... in the light blue building just before the curve and the bridge by the beach. Used to be a general/convenience store.

Speaking of this restaruant, and I realize that the topic is old and has nothing to do with Pine Orchard, but how outta place does this restaruant look. I'd swear it was picked up from broadway and dropped by a heli. into wells. My neighbor ate there over the summer and it cost 9 bucks for a burger. Put my money on it, it won't last past spring.

I questioned how well it would go over in Wells myself, knowing both the town and cuisine. They have a very nice selection and they certainly know their business.

Surprisingly, when it is open, there are always a lot of cars there. I know that the Wells residents travel some distances for a good meal other then the ordinary fare so it may be that it will be successful. As word gets around, I wopuld expect that from late spring to fall there would be an infusion of diners from the various camps in the area from Northville to Indian lake. There certainly isn't much in Indian lake, and Speculator has some decent places with Melody Lodge (which is reservation only) being the only impressive culinary experience.

Oxbow is nice in Piseco and there are some nice places in Northville, but again, nothing impressive. Take my word for it, the food at the Lake Grill is a true Culinary treat. And btw, Never, Ever go into a place like that and order a burger. That's not there specialty and fancy or different, a burger is a burger!

The question will be how they fare in the winter since we only have a winter population of around 300. Hopefully the business will come down from Speculator and the North from the Snowmobile and Skiing crowd. I think that with the quality of food, if the word gets around, they will do well.

Its The Lake House Grille. Have not tried the burger but the pan seared tuna at about. $23 is a bargain considering the portion and quality. As good as any place in the big city. I hope they make it. I think we need a place like this in Wells

I saw this place from R30 - nice . Glad to hear , it's tasty inside . Going to try .
The only thing , I would recommend to put signs on R30 , to let drivers know about it , or many of them just pass by (- .

And do not forget to visit Pine Orchard !! ,
what this thread about , BTW .
