    Big Slide and Yard

We are planning a late July hike of Big Slide and Yard.. over the Brothers .. out of the Garden trailhead.. back out along Johns Brook.. I have a couple of questions.
    1. What time can you get to the Garden to park.. can you sleep there for an early dawn start?
    2. Is the route I have laid out a 8-10 hr hike or a 10-12 hour hike.. we are moderate paced ..but basically always moving..
    3. Is there water to filter , or do we have to carry it in
    4. Are these all marked trails?
    5. Am I missing any other pertinent point to consider.
    6. We have hiked Porter, Giant seperately and did Algonquin, Iroquois and Wright in 12 hours. Is this a comparable route?

Thanks in advance for any assistance N.B.

this seems to be the same trip i plan on doing and the same time..

not to sure about the time it will take but if you are moderate hikers it shouldn't take too long, just be ready for anything...

as for water, i would bring water with you when you start your elevation and rely on getting more at the brook when you come down..once you gain any elevation the posibilities of getting water lessen...

i plan on getting to the garden at 9:00pm or so and hiking into JBL(odge) and setting up shop there. it's only 3 miles in and not too hard of a trail. all trails are marked for these mtns..there are also a couple of lean-tos on the way and we might try and fit into one of them.. we have 6-8 people going and that number is usually the limit...

good luck on your trip and most likely see you out there....

Can you or should you? You can park there 24 hours a day.
You should get there early (7 am to be safe side) to guarantee a spot.

      2. Is the route I have laid out a 8-10 hr hike or a 10-12 hour hike.. we are moderate paced ..but basically always moving..

I did a similar route - over Brothers to Big Slide. Except I skipped Yard mountain cause I heard there wasn't any view there. So I returned by Slide Brook Trail and then the trail along John's Brook. A shorter route than yours.

I can't imagine your route taking more than 8-9 hours.

      3. Is there water to filter , or do we have to carry it in

Bring water for ascent over the Brothers

      4. Are these all marked trails?

      Yes

      5. Am I missing any other pertinent point to consider.

Bring a camera and go on a clear day

      6. We have hiked Porter, Giant seperately and did Algonquin, Iroquois and Wright in 12 hours. Is this a comparable route?

This route has much less climbing than Alg, Iroq and Wright. You should be all set.
