    The best slide climbs???

Which ones are the best? ...or should say the most enjoyable without having to kill yourself getting to it. Nippletop, Colden, East Dix...??? I did the Eagle last year and it was kind of tough getting to the base of the slide, but once on it was a true joy and beautiful adventure. It was also a bit dangerous in spots which added to the exhilaration. OK, lets have it, which ones are the best??? Please give details...especially the approach.

    Thanks

I can't really say, as I have only climbed two slides so far, the great slide on East Dix and the rightmost slide on the north side of Dix. I enjoyed both equally. The one on East Dix seemed easier.
A man needs to believe in something. I believe I'll go hiking.

The slide on Lower Wolfjaw (Bennie's brook) is nice. Farily easy bushwack through hard wood forest to reach bottom of it. The slide is pretty long (about 1 mile) and takes you almost to the ridge. Not too steep either. Be sure to take the right fork.

The only other slide I have done is the 1990 slide on Colden (SE side).

        Lower Wolf Jaw...

Thanks Man...that one sounds pretty cool. About how far from Lake Road is the base??? Is it really steep with Lichens????

          Favorite Slide

My favorite is the Nippletop slide; I’ve climbed this one half a dozen times. The best suggestion I can give you is to follow McMartin’s advice and follow the drainage from Elk Pass to the base of the slide. Don’t just try to follow a contour line. It’s steep, but easily climbed.
The 1990 slide on Coldin is also very nice. It starts at the Lake Arnold/Feldspar Trail. You can’t miss it the slide stopped a few feet from the trail. Near the top is a Y junction, stay to the right. The top section is very steep. I measures it a an angle of 58 degrees

            Love Beenies Brook

            Crave,

I certainly second Rivits suggestion of Bennies Brook Slide. It primarily slab rock and a wonderfully quiet and enjoyable day hike. I have a detailed hike description - HERE - , including directions for the bushwhack (it's pretty easy).

In fact, it's the only way to make this rather uninteresting peak, interesting. Let me know, if you want more directions.

This is the site I used to get info when I did this slide! You did a very good job documenting the trip.

The Bennie Brook Slide is a beautiful slide and recommend it highly. But there are several nice slides that I have done. I love the Colden's Slide from Felspar, both slides on Whiteface are nice, Ski Center Slide and the Lake Placid Slide. Dix Slide from Hunter's Pass, Ermine Slide of Santanoni, Wright's, Nippletop, Giant, East Dix. Let's not forget the Trap Dike on Colden. I consider the Nippletop and Eagle Slide of Giant to be the worst. If you can do them, you can do the others I have listed.

I like the Trap Dike. It's a pain to get to but the views once you're there, looking accross at the MacIntyre's and down into Avalanche Pass are tremendous!
