I'm coming up tomorrow to Lake Placid to spend a week hiking and climbing with my dog. I have a mosquito netted hat for my protection. I'm more concerned for my dog regarding the flies. Will hike Hopkins for sure, and day hikes each day in various areas of the Adirondacks, so no one answer will cover it all of course. She's on a great flea and tick preventer, Bravecto.
