  • Sawyer re-route?

Has there been a re-route of Sawyer Mtn trail recently? I've climbed it 4 or 5 times but not in several years. I did it to day and it just felt... different and unfamiliar in chunks so I was curious.
Successful ascents: 137 (81 different) as of 8/30/22
    Adirondack/Catskill fire tower challenge: 13/31
    Adk 29er challenge: 11/29

Completed: Chester Challenge, Tupper Lake Triad, Hamilton County Waterfall

Same as its been. The trees have grown in at the end partially obstructing the view though.

Thanks. I guess that shows the fallibility of memory.

For what it's worth, my GPS track from this summer did not follow the trail route on the 30+ yo topo map for the first half a mile. Instead of going straight up the right kind it first veered further south then north of the mapped trail.

That's true. A lot of the trails in the park are slightly different than the routes shown on those older topo maps.

I climbed Little Sawyer for the first time back in August. No trail, but an awesome view. Old maps show a separate trail from the same trailhead on the highway as Sawyer. The bushwhack north from the one mile mark on the Cedar River Road isn't bad.

Did you take any pictures?I was on Ledger Mt recently and was curious of what it looks like from across the road.

I've considered spending a night camped out under the overhang of the ledge up there on top of Little Sawyer. Always thought that would be a neat place to stay. One of these days...

Tabe I did. Though I find it too clunky to post links to pictures on this site. If you search Facebook for "Indian Lake NY In Pictures" I posted a summit photo just this past week.
