For crying out loud, there are hundreds of trip reports written by many hikers over the years searchable on the internet. Some of those reports have links to these forums.

I, for one, spent days reading and planning every one of my hikes. I hiked all 46 without asking a single question. The planning is the best and the most fun part of any hikes.

When someone asks, "Where to park? When to get there? Which trail to take?," that really irks me. I figure if a hiker is not willing to spend time for research, I sure won't spend my precious time replying. But if you have exhausted all of your outlets for answers, I will spend my time to offer you my best advice. It's all give and take, buddy!
Then maybe you're in the wrong place here, and would prefer one of the Facebook forums where not being nice is the norm. As Neil pointed out, you could have easily passed on by and not responded at all, instead of using your time this way.

    Thanks for letting us know.

Precious time? You spent a fair bit of it here already.

Nevertheless, I agree that when the OP shows that some effort has already been expended in researching a trip I am more inclined to respond. However, rather than jump on them I just ignore them and let someone else respond.

The early bird gets the parking spot ... and the peak! Well done!

I had actually already planned a different hike, but that couldn't happen, so I had to change gears. I posted my question and then did a couple of hours of research, but since most of the time I receive positive, helpful responses, I figured it was worth posting. Ended up doing the hike and having a great time. Very sore today!

Good luck for Marcy but I think it'll be Whiteface (or anything else with roomy parking).
We left the house at 2:00 am, got to the LOJ at 7:00 and there was plenty of parking. Didn't come back to the car until 7:30 but based on the trail log, there was plenty of activity all day.

Hike was great. Weather was perfect and the view was amazing.

If you plan on going to Marcy from the Loj, you had best be there by 6 or even 530. I'm sure you have looked at a map or are printing one up to guide you to Marcy's summit. Monday should be a nice day. What trail were you planning on taking?

Which trail to take? Going to be hiking with another fit hiker. Not experts, but up for a challenge if that's the best option.

    Thanks again for anyone's help!
What we got here? A lazy hiker who does not do his homework. Why don't you spend a few hours googling?

Don't you also want to know what to take for lunch? Or how much water to take? Or if could wear slippers for this hike?

Haha! Seriously? So what do you know about your intended destination (Marcy) besides its name?

    >Where to park?
Not at the Loj because it'll be full since this is Labor Day Weekend (DEC Rangers are diverting people away from the Loj when its parking lot is full). The Garden is likely to be full as well.

    >When to get there?
    Last weekend ... and early.

    >Which trail to take?
Any of the ones leading to its summit.

I suggest you pick something else like Whiteface starting from the ASRC along the Marble Mountain Trail to the Wilmington Trail.
