rain and mud

its been raining a bit lately. i have noticed quite a bit of mud even when we were having great weather. i wanted to do a climb this week, and i need some advice about a peak that is a comfortable day trip and that will not be an adventure in mud...any thoughts? (excluding cascade, porter, and big slide)

Big Slide is a good choice as long as it's not raining the day you hike. The views are too good to waste that one on a rainy day but most of the trail can handle wet weather.

Phelps, Lower Wolf Jaw, Giant and Rocky. Can't make any promises on the mud but based on what you have been doing these are the likely next steps.

The trails up Giant and Rocky Peak Ridge (RPR) tend to be drier than most of the trails in the High Peaks. I suggest going up the Ridge Trail to Giant. The trail climbs about 3000' in 3 miles, but has a lot of nice views almost the entire way up. If you still have a lot of energy after summiting Giant, you can hike over to RPR. Please note that you drop down a steep 800' into the col between the two mountains and then climb +/- 600' back up RPR. From RPR you would have to head back up Giant to get back to your car without bushwhacking.

Phelps would be a decent option. Most of the trail from the loj to Marcy Dam is very well maintained and not as conducive to mud, then most of the wet spots from Marcy Dam to the summit have large rocks to step on.
