Anyone know if the Johns Brook Lodge is open in the wintertime?

I've hiked past it during the fall months, and was thinking it would be good to stay there in the winter, but the ADK Web site suggests it is only open three seasons. That seems odd as it makes sense to have it open when the weather is the coldest.

Can anyone give me the low-down?

JBL is open for rental inthe winter as a self service lodge. You & your party would be required to rent the enitre lodge - 8 bunks, IIRC.
JBL supplies firewood, pots and pans and a propane stove. You'll need a winter sleeping bag and pad, as the bunkroom gets a little cold.

I have spent a couple of winter nights there in the past - It is quite nice.

I stand corrected - I just called after not seeing it on their website - They no longer rent it out. Howver you can still rent out Camp Peggy O & Grace Camp

How far is Grace Camp from the JBL? I don't recall hiking past them before and I don't see either on my map. The Web site only says they are accessible by foot trails -- can I assume they are in the vicinity of JBL?

I'm guessing the amenities are the same: bunkbeds, fireplace, kitchen???

Grace Camp is less than .5 from JBL, sleeps six, has a gas heater, stove, etc...one room

Peggy Obrien is in the same vicinity, sleeps 12, two rooms, kitchen area, eating area, gas heater, stove, etc...

        Both are very nice.

I also stayed at JBL a few years ago when they rented out the kitchen side and bunk house.

        Rick's link provides the details.

Grace Camp is about a 2-minue walk from JBL. And Camp Peggy O'Brien is across Johns Brook from JBL, almost within sight of JBL. Both camps are on the left side of the brook going up and you don't see them unless you are looking for them. The camps have propane for heat, lights, and cooking (no fireplaces). JBL is not open in the winter because it costs too much to keep warm.

More help getting to Camp POB

As you are strolling out to JLB (Which is definatly boarded up in winter) from "the Garden" you will come to a wooden bridge that crosses Johns Brook about 3 minutes before JLB and about 1 past the "Slide Brook" trail junction that leads to Big Slide. Cross over to the south side of John's brook, and the trail will lead to both Camp Peggy o'Brian and Grace, as well as the 3 JLB lean-tos. The camps are across the river from the main JLB building and just off the above mentioned trail.
