    Calkins Brook tent site?

Is there a nice spot for a tent near the base of Caulkins Brook? Looking to be out there this weekend, doing the 3 in one day then coming back down to camp. Would like to then return back to the trail and hit up seymour the 2nd day, pick up the packs on the way back to the car.

    cheers

I've never camped there but I remember there is an area that was flat and dry not too far after the Calkins turnoff. I figured that that is where I would camp if I was to do so. Plenty of wood but maybe a bit of a haul for water. You might want to carry lots of camel backs and fill them at the crossing. I'm 95% certain that this spot is 5-10 mins. AFTER the creek crossing as you ascend towards the Sewards.

Also, if you look around right near the junction I'm fairly certain you can find level ground far enough off trail to be legal.

As Neil says, I also remember a camping area early into the caulkins brook trail. I'm looking to use it someday myself . However, the spot I'm thinking of was close to the brook.

I think if you continue on the herd path on the left side of the brook, instead of crossing where the cairns direct you to the other side, you will reach a camping spot. Not sure.

When I was there, someone had pitched a tent right near the trail that leads to Schattuk clearing.

If I'm thinking of the same spot as you it is a real beaut but is right on the the creek's bank and therefore illegal. Within 30 feet of the crossing, right?

That's probably the one I'm thinking of too, and it would be illegal (not far enough away from the water). But there's a lot of flat ground near there, could probably move it far enough away...

              Sewards via CB

Backpacked into base of CB. Dropped packs, put on day packs, and headed up. The trail is awesome! The top indeed had a little blowdown, but you can get over/ under it pretty easy. Donaldson had awesome views, which the picture below was taken from. The hike to emmons -> don -> sew -> back to CB cairn was pretty uneventful, aside from some mud, and awesome people. Thanks to all that offered us water (and gatorade!). We had 4 liters of water between the 2 of us, and somehow we were still dehydrated!
The campsite was nice... not a person within miles. Woke up the next day and decided to scratch seymour and go enjoy the rest of the dacks! Ran into HarryK on the way out to boot!

oh yeah, the campsite was right *after* you cross the CB, on your right, behind a boulder.
