In case you haven't disovered this link on your own, I wanted to make you all aware of updates to our trail information webpage. The URL is http://www.dec.state.ny.us/website/reg5/hptrails.html. There are seperate pages for different areas of the eastern portion of the Adirondack Forest Preserve.
The pages are set up with general trail information, followed by information specific for that geographical area. At the bottom of the page there are links to NOAA/NWS area-specific 5-day weather forecasts.
The site is regularly updated with information provided by local Forest Rangers, Forest Preserve Planners/Managers (Foresters), and verified information recieved from the hiking public.
DEC is also unveiling an interactive mapping program. The application is located at http://www.dec.state.ny.us/apps/statelands/ and provides information for State Recreation Lands (Forest Preserve, State Reforestation Areas, and Wildlife Management Areas). The program is GIS-driven, providing information on trails and facilities. Presently the data is completed for most of the State EXCEPT for the Adirondack Forest Preserve. We are presently working at developing the Adirondack datasets.
