    Algonquin Cliff....

I was wondering if anyone was familiar with the particular cliff I am referring to? The last time I was on top of Wright's Peak, I saw a fairly large cliff on what I think was the NE side of Algonquin. It was fairly close to the top of the mountain. I had two questions about it, first, is there any place along the trail to the Algonquin summit where it is better to turn off the trail to get to the cliff, and second, is the cliff anorthosite or something else? I'm attaching a picture I took from Wright's...kinda snowy so its hard to really see the cliff with the snow flowing over it..but its all I got. You can just make out top edge of the cliff just below the cloud line on the north side of the mountian.

This is the definitive guide to climbing in the ADKs. I don't rock climb or personally own the book, but have paged through it looking for info on one specific rock wall section on Basin. If people climb it regularly, it will be in there.

As for how to get to it, knowing Algonquin fairly well, I can guarantee that you'll be chewed up at that elevation by spruce something fierce. I've attached the topo of the route I would take if it were me aspiring to climb that wall. Pin-pointing exactly where the wall is on topo will allow you to punch in coordinates and follow that bearing with a GPS.

Here's a link to how to manage photos for use on forums:
