    46'r question?

    Good evening all of you.

My question is this. I have been hiking the high peaks since I was a young teen. In those times I never thought of actually being an official 46'r. I now have around 15 peaks left. Recently I started keeping a journal of my hikes, but there are peaks I know I have summitted but don't have the date or vital info on. Is there a procedure to follow in this case, or do I need to climb them again. With some I have been able to figure out the month and year. How strict are the guidelines laid out by the organization. I am going to push to finish by fall of '05. Any tips would be helpful. Thanks all

It's all based on the honor system now. You say you climbed 'em, you get a number. Simple as that. (well, there is paperwork as you're aware)

If you don't know the exact date in 1953 you summited peak #2 don't sweat it. Just be as close as you can, I don't think they would make you re-climb any.

Kevin, thanks for the heads up. That follows what I was thinking. Should I start submitting my reports now for the ones I have completed. I imagine that they wouldn't want all 46 at one time. Would be fun reading though. As for climbing them again, if you have a certain summit multiple times can that count towards the winter 46'r or something. Of all the ones I have done I have both summer and winter completions. I hate asking simple questions, but I guess someties you just have to. Thanks

        Hi,
The 46'ers actually like people to write in early and start a correspondence that usually lasts between 1-12 years!
Exact dates are not a prob. If you know that Colvin is a mountain and that you climbed it once, well that's good enuff. Instead of telling the exact date and time - just tell what you saw along the way, the highlites of your trip & such. That's what interests the org,,,,not time & temp.

Yes you can count the Winter as long as they were climbed between December 21-March 21.

If you have climbed them all, for the First Time Ever just in Winter, you will be entitled to wear the Summer Patch and Winter Rocker.

Say for example you climbed 30 peaks, 10 of them were climbed just in Winter, the other 20 in Summer. You then climb the other 16, in Summer. You become a Forty-Sixer. Then you started the Winter 46, well those 10 already climbed in Winter count towards the Winter Rocker and do not need to be reclimbed. They are counted as "Double Bubbles."

I was in a similar situation. I didn't contact the 46er club until I was well into 30 peaks. I had done many of them through summer camp as a kid. i did my best to recount the date. They were kind. It would be a pathetic thing to lie about your peaks.
