Possible to see High Peaks from Inlet??

My youngest son (a Paul Smith's grad) is in town for a couple of weeks on a work assignment and wanted to get in a quick hike over the weekend. We went up to the Old Forge area and did a quick loop up-and-over Black Bear Mtn - just outside of Inlet. We stopped just short of the top on an outcropping that faced East. Having been on the top many times, we knew this was a better place for a wider view and to eat lunch. The weather was fairly clear and as we ate, we picked out Blue Mountain fairly easy, when my son mentioned that he thought the High Peaks were visible in the far background. Well I told him that was probably just cloud cover, and proceeded to get out some binoculars to check it out. Much to my surprise, he was correct - what he was looking at were definitely mountains and one in particular stuck way up over the others that were just peaking over the horizon. What I thought was cloud cover, appeared to be actually snow on the top. Well we took a rough compass bearing and noted the relationship of what we found to Blue Mountain. When I arrived home, I checked out the topo maps and I am wondering if what we actually saw was Mount Marcy? Just wondering if anyone has ever noticed being able to see any of the High Peaks from that section of the park (Inlet area)?

Many times but usually in late winter/early spring when the air is clear and most likely from the same favorite outcropping. I only go to the actual summit one in ten times.

Ive been up Black Bear many times over the years and yes on a clear day (think Canadian air) you can see the high peaks.

Yes, as others have said you can see the high peaks from Black Bear. The long, thin Ermine Brook slide on Santanoni was very noticeable when I was up there last winter, as I recall.

on a clear day you can see Marcy from the top of McCauley Mtn. in Old Forge, even a bit farther away.
