    Location advice

I have found some interesting looking cabins and cottages in the Long Lake and Jay/Keene areas. Can you tell me which area would provide a better location for getting to some of the High Peaks trails, hikes in other areas, and waterfall hikes? Can anyone comment on The Shamrock Motel and Cottages, specifically the efficiencies and cottages? We're not looking for a palace, just a comfortable and clean place. http://www.adirondack.net/Business3050/Website/

Since you've asked for advise, here's my recommendation - for what it's worth. When I go to the High Peaks, I stay at Pine Place. I've stayed at Pine Place many times. Very clean and comfortable. Pine Place is a short walk to Main Street, Lake Placid. The "landlord" and "superintendent" are winter 46ers, and they are happy to answer all of your hiking questions.

For rentals, try http://www.adkbyowner.com. There is a range of house/condos ranging from palace to "rustic".

The towns you mentioned all have great access to high peaks/low peaks/waterways.

Thanks rdl. That's where I found the info for The Shamrock and some other listings that interest us.
