    Paul Smith's area

    .
Do you guys think there's a breeding population of Moose in the Paul Smith's area (Northern part of the Park)?

Or just the occasional migrant in the area?

I don't know about there, but I know there is not far (an easy day's stroll for a moose) from there. So it would seem reasonable to me that Paul Smiths area would have a breeding population of moose.

I was at the Paul Smiths VIC last week, and they had spotted one on their property a few days before...it doesn't really answer your question, but I've gotta believe where there is one, there are more.

I know there was also a sighting from the VIC's boardwalk in April this year. I have no idea how common they are in the area. I'm not aware of any moose crossing signs in that area, though they've put new signs up on Route 3 near Vermontville.

The Paul Smiths VIC website says that "Moose sightings have increased over the past several years" on their 2,885-acre property, but it doesn't get specific about the numbers.

The Adirondack Wilderness ... is a vast natural park, one immense and silent forest, curiously and beautifully broken by the gleaming waters of a myriad of lakes, between which rugged mountain ranges rise as a sea of granite billows. -- Verplanck Colvin

I don't know if I'd want to see a bear/moose cross breed anyway.

My place is two miles down the road from the college, and we have had more than a few sightings, and even a few in the middle of the road. I was thinking it seems like a few to many to be just a migrant.

Either that or that one moose really gets around!

We've seen moose tracks several times near Santa Clara, & a friend recently saw a mother & calf on his property where there are lots of blueberries.
