I wonder if you'll have to hike the new section in order to receive the patch.

I'm only doing it by section with the second out of four being sheduled this fall. I'm hesitating between the (Piseco to Wakely Dam NOBO) and (Lake Placid to Shattuck Clearing SOBO) sections. The first would be the logical choice since I did Benson to Piseco last year but I'm worried about not being able to see Duck Hole as it is now (and have been for the last 100 years or so...) if I wait too long.

I guess I'll have to get in touch with Redhawk soon for the shuttle service. I'll try to get there on time this year (Sorry Hawk!).

Any update on the Duck Hole situation?

We're coming out at the Upper Benson trailhead, so that won't affect us. I don't know of anyone who did the Northville to Upper Benson section. Just as no one does the Averyville to Lake Placid section.

I just went threw it. If your coming from the North there is a reroute around in front of the Beaver dam around the East Side of the area. From the south it starts just past the dead end at the water where you can see the markers, but is blocks by some brush. If you go back about 10 feet then hike up and then cut east and back down around that brush you will see the trail and it is marked.

For a group permit and advice, you need to contact Greg George, Forest Ranger in Blue Mt Lake. See the link below for ranger list and phone numbers.

You can park around the camping area at Wakely Dam (near the Cedar River Gate) or drive on down the road to the NPT trailhead and gate about a mile (but parking is limited where the trail leaves the road).

I have a new question. My group size has recently grown by a few guys and we are at 13! I now need to contact the DEC to let them know we will have larger group, what is the easiest way to do that? I am assuming that at this size we will be splitting into 2 groups and not camping together any more. Also, I read that there is some flooding due to beavers in the Mud Lake area. Does anyone have any advice about how we should alter our route because of the flooding? Thanks!

I'm not sure how it is threw West Canada, It should be fine though as I've not heard of any reports. I'm leaving this Saturday myself from Upper Benson for a threw trip, I'll not see yah on the way if you ending at Piseco, wont be there till Monday early morning.

The best way is Cedar River Road off of 28 between Indian Lake Village and Blue Mountain Village, cant miss it, from Indian Lake its right after crossing the river to the left northbound.

started a topic Northville Placid Trail

    Northville Placid Trail

    Hi,
I am going on a hike with some friends next weekend and we are doing a section of the NPT. We are actually hiking it from North to South, starting at Wakely Dam and coming out at Piseco. I have 2 questions I was hoping someone might be able to answer.

    1. Where exactly is the parking spot at Wakely Dam? I think it is on Cedar River Road, is there a trail head sign there? My dad is going to move our vehicles from Wakely to Piseco and I want to be sure I can tell him where our van will be.

    2. I know there was some damage this past winter/spring from an ice storm in that general area, does anyone know if there are trees down along the trail?
Thanks and if anyone has any tips, pointers or advice for my trip, I would appreciate it, THANKS!
