The Banff Film Festival is coming!!

If you are interested in seeing some of the most amazing outdoor films on the face of the planet, then you've gotta see the Banff Film festival! The festival is a compilation of short movies dealing with everything outdoors from dry tooling to hiking to insane mountain expeditions to whatever-else-an-outdoor-person-can-think-of! If youve never been, make the effort to get to a place that is showing it. It is well worth the drive and price of admission. Ive been going to it every year in Placid for the last 3 years...if you have been, then you already know!
    Heres the info for Placid:
    Lake Placid
    Chestnut Mountain Productions

...and heres a link for the rest of the places showing it in NY state: Banff Film Festival in NY State

Wow! I guess it's a big festival. I'm going to see it late January in Ottawa. It's supposed to be something. I'm looking forward to it.

        Banff at Saratoga

The third annual Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour of the Capital District has a new venue! This year’s event will be at the Bernhard Theater at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs on February 26th, 2005 beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Presented by National Geographic and Dunham Bootmakers, the Banff Film Festival World Tour is hosted locally and jointly by the Adirondack 46er Conservation Trust and the Skidmore Outing Club of Skidmore College; Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) is the generous local door prize sponsor. As in past years, the proceeds from this event benefits a non-profit organization - this year, the Skidmore Outing Club.

The Banff Film Festival features spectacular films from around the world that celebrate the theme "mountains". It is much more than a Warren Miller ski movie type of event, however - these films span the broadest spectrum of how the word "mountain" can be defined: They include the most jaw-dropping, fist-clenching climbing films to be seen anywhere, as well as the funniest, the most inspiring, the most thought-provoking - all celebrating man's relationship with places of higher elevation. From the Mountain Film Festival which takes place every year in early November, these best-of-the-best films are taken on a road tour throughout Canada, the United States, and even Europe, where they can be enjoyed by a far wider audience than could ever be accommodated in Banff itself. The films you see were winnowed by a juried film competition to a select few. It is these films that are brought to you on the World Tour - the best films of the Banff Film Festival: Uniformly inspiring, spectacular, and heartwarming - sometimes, all in the same film.

Tickets can be purchased at any of the local EMS stores located in the Capital District, at these locations:

        - Stuyvesant Plaza (Western Ave., Guilderland)

        - The Shoppes at Wilton (Route 50, Wilton)

        - Balltown Road, Niskayuna

        Festival Location:
Jacob Bernhard Theater, Skidmore College, 815 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. 12866
Ample, free parking is available for Banff Film Festival enthusiasts next to the theater.

            Hi

Hi I just joined this site today after finding it by accident while googling around. I was very interested in all that you people do and maybe you can teach me about the Adirondacks. I have never hiked up a mountain, but I sure would like to try it. I love nature, the outdoors, in the summer I am NEVER inside by choice. Your pictures and stories look so wonderful, I am so envious. I am a flatlander (sigh).

I saw the show her in Ottawa last night. It was great. There's footage for everyone. Plus, you get to be crammed in a theater withwith nothing but Outdoor freeks. I recommend it if you have the opportunity to go.

I have a limited number of tickets to sell anyone who cannot make it to an EMS store in the Capital District to purchase tickets, but who still want to attend the Skidmore College show on Feb. 26th. I can mail those tickets to you, if you send me a SASE at: James Close, 3 Brightman Road, Mechanicville, N.Y. 12118-2807, along with a check (make check out to "Adirondack 46er Conservation Trust". Tickets are $13 apiece. Please contact me offline at banfffilmfest@earthlink.net or call me at 518-664-2980 if you have questions. EMS, by the way, is the major local door prize sponsor, and will once again have great door prizes - that alone is worth the price of admission.

                              Banff in Saratoga Springs

Mike - I think you will enjoy the show in Saratoga very much - we have a really good lineup of films and did a course correction based on comments received about last year's show. This year's show reflects the Banff Film Festival's own recommendations, based on how well the films were received by audiences throughout the country, and includes the Grand Prize Winner, "Alone Across Australia".

Tickets can be purchased at any of the three EMS stores in the Capital District: Stuyvesant Plaza, Niskayuna, and Wilton. Advance sale tickets are $13, and day of show tickets are $15, so get your tickets in advance to save a couple of bucks. We also have some FABULOUS door prizes -worth the price of admission alone. And the show will benefit the Adirondack 46er Conservation Trust and the Skidmore College Outing Club.

Saturday, Feb. 26th @ 7:00 pm at the Bernhard Theatre at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs.
