    Couple of questions...

    Hey everyone!

So my friend backed out of our Catskills hike this weekend, so I figured I might as well make a solo trek up north. I'm leaving early tomorrow (Friday) morning and hiking to Lake Colden where I'll stay for 2 nights. I haven't seen any trip reports or trail conditions within the past week from the high peaks region, so I was just wondering if snowshoes and or crampons will still be needed. Also, with the nice weather this weekend, should I still be able to get a parking spot if I'm arriving around 11am or so? Thanks so much!

    Friday 11am?

I would hope so. Victoria weekend is next weekend, and memorial day the weekend after so I'm guessing traffic (on the trails) will be only typical, not ridiculous. If not it should clear out later in the day, so worst case you have to kill a few hours.

Snow? Should still be snow up high this weekend. Snowshoes might be useful. Last weekend on Kilburn there was snow in spots off the slide. When I've been up the Gothics in early May (more like last weekend early) there is still knee to waist deep snow in spots. You can usually get away without crampons but there will be some ice and snow in a typical year.

I'm sure you will get better info ASAP from another member.

That said, someone will have better info, or check VFTT for more accurate conditions (albeit a week old probably).

Thanks for the response Pico! If anyone else has any comments I would love to hear them. I'll be leaving in about 6 hours but have to stay up to watch my San Antonio Spurs answer to the Hornets! See you out there...

BTW...great pics! I'm dragging my Mamiya 6x6 on this trip hoping for some good shots

Always wanted medium format. Then I saw what Rowell could do with 35mm and I said, "why not concetrate on one system, afterall it's not like a 35mm SLR and a bag of lenses is weightless (or costless)."

Still I find myself looking at a 645 or 67 system from time to time... ...big 645 frames of Provia 100F on a lightbox and all the resolution + some of a $8000 digital 35mm.

Thanks, thanks a lot for reminding me...I hope you come back with nothing!!!

Just kidding, have a great trip, and post some shots!!

how does a guy from brooklyn end up rooting for the spurs? your supposed to suffer like the rest of us in the city pulling for the knicks.

Nah everyone stopped caring about the knicks after they got you traded Patrick. Yep we wanted you gone, and once you were we got what we asked for, years of sub mediocre basketball without the big man in the middle.
