Thought maybe people could talk about positive experiences while hiking which involved meeting other people out on the trail.
Mine is a simple one from one of the very first backpacking trips I ever took many years ago at a lean to near Tirrell Pond. I ended up sharing a lean to with another hiker I didn't know and in the course of one of our talks I showed him my new compass that I had recently purchased. Somehow he ended up keeping it by accident (neither of us realized it). When I hiked out several days later, there was my compass attached to my car. He had sought out a ranger who helped him to locate my car. I don't know how long it took him to find my car, but that simple act meant enough to me that over 40 years later I still recall it. That first impression of the kind of people we run into while out on the trails in the Daks will remain with me forever.
