Moose River Plains Complex: The gates to Moose River Plains Camping Area will be closed on December 8. They will re-open for snowmobile season when there is appropriate snow cover.
Moose River Plains Recreation Area: Roads are extremely icy; tire chains suggested.

Camp Santanoni Historic Area: Newcomb Lake Road to Camp Santanoni is now over-the-snow travel only (skis or snowshoes required). Conditions may be variable. Be prepared to adapt or have a backup plan.

Adirondack Rail Trail: The Adirondack Rail Trail is open for snowmobile season from Lake Placid to Tupper Lake.
Santa Clara Conservation Easement Tract: All public access roads on this easement are closed for the winter.
Saranac Lakes Wild Forest: Little Green/Little Clear and Saint Germain Pond roads are closed through winter until the end of mud season. Winter parking for Little Green area and Adirondack Rail Trail is located at the end of Station Road, off of Fish Hatchery Road.
Western
William C. Whitney Wilderness & Round Lake Wilderness: Lake Lila Road is closed for the winter.
West Central
Blue Mountain Wild Forest: Township 19 Conservation Easement -O’Neil Flow Road is closed to vehicle traffic and open for snowmobiles.
Moose River Plains Complex: All gates in the Moose River Plains Wild Forest are open for the snowmobile season.
East Central
Jessup River Wild Forest: Old Military Road and Jessup River Road are closed to motor vehicles for the season due to snowmobile routes reopening. Mason Lake and Pillsbury Mountain Trailhead are no longer accessible via motor vehicle.
Jessup River Wild Forest: The Crotched Pond tract interior parking area is open but not maintained during the winter months.
Perkins Clearing/Speculator Tree Farm Conservation Easement Tracts: All roads within Speculator Tree Farm and Perkins Clearing are closed due to snow levels or for snowmobile season.
Southern
Lake Desolation Conservation Easement: The road to Archer Vly is closed for snowmobile season. Trails remain open and parking is available across Lake Desolation Road, 0.1 miles from the trailhead.
Dennie Road Conservation Easement: Winter-use trails are open for the season. Occasional grooming may occur. Please use skis or snowshoes.
Ferris Lake Wild Forest: Powley Road, which provides access to Ferris Lake Wild Forest, is closed for the season.
Hans Creek Conservation Easement: The snowmobile trail through the Hans Creek Tract will open for the season as snow levels permit. This new trail connects the Saratoga Snowmobile Association trails with the Great Sacandaga Lake area. Access is limited to snowmobiling only. State police and NYS Rangers will be called for trespass violations.
Silver Lake Wilderness Area: West River Road, which provides access to the Whitehouse Trailhead of the Northville-Placid Trail, is closed for the season.

Grass River Wild Forest: Multiple updates
An ongoing timber harvest necessitates temporary closures to sections of C8D, S80A, S80B, and 703 snowmobile trails on the Grass River and Tooley Pond Conservation Easements. An ongoing timber harvest necessitates temporary reroute to a section of the C7C snowmobile trail on the Seveys Conservation Easement. Due to an ongoing timber harvest, a section of C7A on the Seveys Conservation Easement, from Snowmobile Junction 27 east to where the trail turns south off the Windfall Road, will temporarily need to be shared by both logging trucks and snowmobiles. Please slow down and stay alert when traveling on this section of trail. For the latest updates, please check the New York State Snowmobile Association’s website before heading out.
As of Monday, December 15, public access to the Grass River Conservation Easement is open for the season. For more detail, refer to the map on the Grass River Complex webpage.

Bog River Complex:
DEC completed the construction of two parking areas in the Bog River Unit: one at the Bog River trailhead, and another at the Winding Falls trailhead. These parking areas provide safer access to the popular Bog River cross-country skiing trails.

Lake George Wild Forest: All MAPPWD routes in Lake George Wild Forest are closed for the season.
Southwestern
Independence River Wild Forest:
The Centennial Ski Trail has been flooded by beaver activity in several locations – mostly located near Partridgeville Road and towards the center of the trail.
The bridge on Pine Lake Trail at the Pine Lake inlet is currently flooded – hikers may be able to cross upstream from the bridge site, but the trail is closed at this location to snowmobiles.
Weekly Snow Report: As of Sunday, 12/21, snow depths were recorded to be 19” (48 cm) at the stake at the Lake Colden Interior Cabin (~2,750 feet elevation).
Southwestern
Independence River Wild Forest: Stillwater Mountain Trail has been reopened (it is closed seasonally during hunting season).

REMINDER: Attention Lake Colby (north of the Village of Saranac Lake) recreators – please be advised that public use of the Camp Colby grounds is prohibited. Follow all posted “do not enter” and “restricted area” signs along the property border. Due to frequent public use of the restricted area, DEC will provide increased ECO presence throughout the weekends.
