Great Mission! You sparked some memories in these photos. And I should stumble on to your post today, just when I was wondering how the rebuild of the lean-to on the South side of Fish Pond turned out. Nice, hope that is the St Regis Fish Pond I have in mind, somewhere around 15 years ago. Time slowly goes so fast. Be well. Grayelve

It appears that the Pilsbury Lake Leanto has been taken down?

Did this just happen? I hiked by there back in September and it was still there.

I believe the South Lake lean-to was relocated some time during this past Autumn.

While this collection does stir up many memories, it also instills even more dreams and ambitions. Nice to know that's still possible.

My wife and I got to a local new one today not in your collection. Located on the Finger Lakes Land Trust Bock-Harvey Preserve on a section of the FLT, it is known as the Locust Lean-to. It's near Treman State Park which is good, because I go there regularly and will have to go back to see what the Land Trust describes as "the most scenic privy on the FLT."

Nice! Yeah, I have yet to visit it (either to camp in it or take a photo of it) but I checked my personal map that I've been using to track my progress and its on there.

Here is a link to a great slide show prepared in 2016 by Sarah Jordan, Heritage Program Manager with USFS. Lots of information about lean-to's in the White Mountains.

I had to google them. they have interior fireplaces? Amazing.

Not that i want to go that far south... but they are awesome.

Yeah, they look really neat, especially in contrast to the typical wood shelter. One of them (Fingerboard) had been just renovated not long prior to my visit there.

I will say, though... On cooler nights, the stone walls do have a tendency to get covered in condensation. "Damp" describes some of my experiences sleeping in them

                    DSettahr,

Dig the photo's! It's cool to look at all of them, but seeing the ones I stayed at years ago is pretty cool too.

How long have you been working on this project? Do you have a plan once finished, i.e. get them published in a book (coffee table book!) or perhaps a running loop at a museum. You could do seminars. Or maybe it's just for you to share when you want to.

                    Either way, thanks for posting!
