good sites at fish creek campgrounds

we'll be coming up from pennsylvania next week for about 10 days. first two days we're going to camp at fish creek ponds, then we'll be off to a cabin on upper saranac.

anyone have any recommendations on campsites or certain areas when it comes to fish creek?

we'll have two dogs, a motorboat, a kayak, and be sleeping in the back of an suv.
im also planning on exploring follensby clear and little square ponds when there.

we'll also be hoping the crowds usually associated with fish creek ponds have packed it in for the season.

    thanks.

I usually stay at Rollins Pond but it's closed for the season.I think the (C) section along Fish creek are the most attractive sites there.Plus they have the easist access to the other ponds you want to visit. The rest of the campground looks like a little city when I come up that way in the middle of the summer.Have a great time, nice time of the year to be up that way.

C section is nice but there is a bit of slope to get down to the creek. We've always tried to get Site 29. It's on the lake but right near the creek outlet and the boat launch. It's fairly private for the main part of Fish Creek and it's set back from the road.

          Hi phillyjim,

It's first come, first serve at this time of the season at Fish Creek. Sites are open up till site #135.

Was there last week and it was about 75% full still!

Best bet for fall camping would be around site 100, or around 144. Sites in these areas have great views of the moon if you're lucky enough to be around a full moon and morning sun for those chilly morning. Sites around 144 also have a view of Whiteface and Mackenzie if its clear out.

Since you have a boat, sites around 144 are perfect with a great sand beach. There is a cement barrier wall around the 100's to prevent errosion which is a concern for some boaters.

Sites in the C section are great, and more private but not as easy to access your power boat.

You'll have lots of choice... hard to find a crappy site at Fish Creek!

As a Fish Creek Addict, I have a website that includes photos for each campsite along with details. Its a work in progress but should have most of the campsite details completed in the next week or so.

          See http://fishcreekpond.com

Luck for us, Fish Creek is the last state park open in the fall (closes Nov 11 this year!).
