    JBL area lean-to

    Hello all,

I'm planning a hike of the Upper Range and would like opinions on the best lean-to / tent sites. I'm looking at either the Ore Bed Brook lean-to or one of the Bushnell Falls lean-tos. Any opinions on which would be the best choice and which would most likely be available?

    Thanks

It's hard to predict lean-to availability, but at Bushnell Falls there is more than one, so I'd assume your odds are better. I'd definitely bring a tent in any case (I believe there are more tent sites there). Also, less uphill walking required to get there.

If the Upper range you are referring to is Gorhits thru Lower Wolfjaw, then I have some info.

I did this range two years ago and stayed at the Ore Bed Leanto. Nice location, water right there, outhouse (I know I'm a sucker). Only problem I had was a bear. Probed the camp our first night looking for food, and then stole my bag the second night. That one was my fault. I hung it too close to the branch the rope was going around. Oops. I know better now and will use my bear vault. We did have another hiker come into the leanto around 11 pm, soaked and tired. More than happy to let someone in, especially in the rain. I had passed him petween Armstrong and Upper Wolf going the opposite direction. I digress. Cant comment on the Bushnell falls LTs, never stayed there. At Ore Bed there IS at least one tent camping site that I remember.

If this is not the range, then I cant help.

If I remember correctly, wolfjaws LT even if full, had alot of tent spaces too. Nice place to start for lower wolf > upper > armstrong > gothics > down orebed tr > woodsfall tr > WJ LT.

Thats how I did it. Nice loop!
