    Gore Mt. - Info sought?

Okay, what's the easiest way to climb this puppy. Do I take the trail, or do you go right up the ski slope (as suggested by friend). The Ski area is closed now (I checked).

Also, give or take, roughly how long for this one. We're planning on heading up and hiking Pillsbury on Sunday AM. since we're in the area and that's bound to be a short one, we're thinking if there's time, we'll drive around and hike Gore too. Is that possible.

    Thoughts? suggestions?

I haven't heard either way whether the ski slope of trail are easier. I thnk the ski slope is half the mileage though, as the trail seems/is a very round-about way of getting to the top (though it is an interesting hike).

Well I'm going to be up there one day skiing this weekend. Earn yer turns baby!!

The easiest way I know of is to take the work road to Tannery trail.

Park at the parking lot at the ski area as far to the left as possible near the old gondola building. Start the hike there and stay to the left as you make your way up the first flat trail (bear cub run). A work road will come in from the left a couple of hundred yards up from the parking lot(Tannery alpine). Take that road and follow it up past the Tannery foundation. Eventurally you will come upon the base of the Topridge triple chair. Continue up the Tannery trail until you come to the base of the Straightbrook chair. At this point you have a choice. You can take a left up the Chatiemac trail to the top or continue up headwaters trail to cloud and to the top. Trail maps can be found here

Expect to walk through a fair amount of snow on the trails near the top.

        Good luck

        Keith

Oh yeah, 45 min to an hour total one way.

Did this one yesturday afternoon (did Pillsbury in the AM). Did a variation of ADK Keith's route above. Interesting, insomuch as odd to say the least, the mountain is dead now, and pretty much the only snow left is the bulletproof packed stuff left over on the "diamond" level slopes.

Oh yea, if you plan on going UP "diamond" level slopes in mid-spring rotten snow conditions, be smarter than us, and bring crampons along. It's less stressfull

-TRIP REPORT- and here's a shot of my 12 y/o daughter heading up the "single diamond" Fairview run without crampons. Is that some STONES or what?

Here's a trip report by a friend I skied with there on Saturday.

The slopes are much better with skis.

Great pics....... You know, as we were kicking round the top, I strolled on over to the top of "the Rumor" and gandered over. I kinda wondered what kind of "whacko's" (and I say that with the upmost respect ) would have the stuff to ski that one. I suppose now I know.

Actually, it was a rather ordinary and boring walk from a hiking standpoint, but I do have to say, it did inspire the whole gang to wanna go there next winter to ski. I've never skied there and I certainly would love to check it out. Not Rumor or Lies or anything, but some of the other stuff for sure.

Gee and I was wondering what kind of whacko climbs 2 mountains in one day!

Let me know when you come up to ski, I'd love to do some runs with you.

Here's a couple of more from Saturday.

WOW, you guys had way better powder over there. On the other side where we went up Fairview, it was striaght up glossly snow/ice (as you can see from the photo). Even with the afternoon softening of 70 degree weather, we struggled to kick-step more than 1-2 inches at a step.

It was pretty dicey and had we been on anything other than a short stretch of ski slope, no way we would done it without crampons.

That run is always icy and blown off. Some of the crew I was with on Saturday went over there on they're way down. I didn't hear how it was. It was really sweet corn snow on Rumor though.
