    Adirondack park camping

    Hi,
We are planing to go whitewater rafting in the april. Since we live in
New york, we can't do it in one day therefore we decided to camp out
hike a little for one day on saturday and raft on sunday.
Unfortunately, all campgrounds are closed . I read that you can camp
anywhere on state territory Adirondack. Does anyone know details like
where would be easy for us to camp and park cars just for one night and
what suggestions you could give to us.We are planing to go whitewater rafting.. therefore. we should be somewhere near Inidan lake. Any suggestion where could we camp out so our cars would be near by. I am equipped for camping but not for backpack camping. Which trails would you recommend?

    Thanks
    Igor

There are numerous car camping spots along route 30 right on Indian Lake.
You should keep to sites that are "designated" camping sites. This shouldn't be a problem. While in the area don't miss Snowy Mt. the trailhead is located right on Rt 30, S of the Village in Indian Lake. Nice climb. Great Views. There will probably be snow and ice conditions however.

technically, those sites are not open for camping until the official campground opens. people camp there anyways.

there are campsites on Mason Lake, just south of Lewey Lake/Indian Lake on Route 30 ... first come, first serve. The seasonal road should be open on May 1st. These campsites are not affliated with the state campgrounds ... and I don't believe that there are any outhouses, so you'd have to take that into consideration.

You may be able to camp overnight right there on Chain Lakes Rd. on campsites owned by IP right on Lake Abanakee. Check with Indian Lake C of C or IP. You can also camp @ Cedar River Flow if Rd. is open.

Thirteen Lake has sites right near the parking lot. Maybe 100yds. There are also a few sites with a longer walk ans some you can paddle to. If you choose that locale, Peaked Mt and Pond are worth a visit.

Mason is 10 mi north of Speculator on Rt 30

What are the limitiation on those sites 9 people per site? if i have like 10,11 people.. should i take 2 sites?

It may very well be busy then, as that is about the real start of hot brown trout fishing.
The limit is I believe 9 per site, there are several sites at the main camp and more camps along the lake farther down. They are first come, first served however.
Steve Ovitt is the Ranger to contact for that area.

You can get a license at any Walmart you drive by as well as the town clerks office in most town. however the clerks have iffy hours so you need to check that. I also think there are a couple of places in Speculator where you can get one.

A lot of bait & tackle shops sell licenses. I'm not sure of any specifically in Indian Lake though.
A man needs to believe in something. I believe I'll go hiking.

whats the name of the outfitters on route 8 about 1/2 mile from the center of Speculator? They sell licenses as well as permits for IP property.
