    Giant

I'm climbing my first high peak in 2 weeks. There's a group of us climbing Giant from the Chapel Pond area. Can anyone give me any beta, advice, info you think I should know?

    Thx

Giant's a nice choice. I'm guessing you'll need crampons or really aggressive snow shoes in the low and mid elevation stretches. Probably all snow shoes from where the roaring brook falls trail intersects to the summit.

Giant has nice views for much of the way up. Bring a camera.

Keep an eye on the VFTT trail conditions page. Let me know if you want a link.

Giant is a great hike indeed.

        Hey Hockey2

Haven't seen you post on NPMB for a while. You give up paddling?
...better to be up a creek without a paddle than to not be on the water at all!

No, just for the winter. Nothing really exciting going on on the board anyways.

That's where I have seen your name Hockey2. I've paddled quite a few of the same rivers as you. I've given up on paddling mostly and hike for almost all of my free time. I still get out on the salmon a few times a year. When I used to get out more I was on the black, hudson and middle moose.

Hockey2--We climbed Giant back in December--a great hike--it's a steady climb the whole way up w/ great views all along the route
Some pics if you want to check it out-http://community.webshots.com/album/525867273nPWBmn
There was more snow then and snowshoes were the mode of travel-Things have changed since so I would carry snowshoes and crampons to be safe

Agree with all of the above comments on the 'niceness' of the climb up Giant. One thing to add, though - take the ridge trail up. That's the route that has all of the nice views.

Giant is best in winter, provided you have the right gear. Andrew, you have a fantastic site.
