    Lake Placid Lodge

    Did anyone hear about this?
    http://www.thechamplainchannel.com/n...84/detail.html

Did the Lake Placid lodge burn to the ground? I have heard two different stories. Anyone know what's going on? I guess it happened this morning.
    Thanks-

I saw it on the news tonight; from what i gather it was a total loss, though I just caught the tail end of the report. It's a real shame.

Your right GG! I just found this online..

How awful! That was a cool structure.
Not to mention the people who worked there being out of work before Christmas.

A little bit of the true Adk architecture gone.

Well, it's not completely destroyed. Most of the guest rooms are cabins along the lakefront, and they all survived. But the restaurant, pub and library which were in the 100+ yr old Lodge are gone. Along with a lot of artwork and locally designed furniture.
My husband works (worked?) there, and we're still waiting to hear if he is definitely out of work or not. Since they're planning to re-open the cabins as soon as possible, a lot of the staff will be able to stay on. But we're not sure what will happen to the dining and kitchen employees yet.
The good news is at least he won't have to work on Christmas this year. (I'm trying to go with a glass is half full attitude, not sure if it's working)

I'm so sorry to hear that! Our local 24-hour news station (in Syracuse NY)is saying that the place was completely destroyed ( there goes the media again!!!!!).
The library and the wine cellar kill me.. My two favorite things.

Will the owners try to rebuild it? Is the property privately held or a corp?
I hope they had enough insurance on the place.

Good Luck! I hope your husband can keep his job or find another.

owned by a small handful of shareholders, from what I understand. from the entry gate, uphill of the lodge, by the 9th hole of the WFC golf course, the lodge looks no different. Down below is another matter though.
