710 acres transferred to DEC for forest preserve,0187

(Albany, NY - AP) — New Yorkers might be getting more room to fish, hike and ride snowmobiles.

The state Canal Corporation has agreed to transfer 719 acres in the southwestern Adirondacks to the state Department of Environmental Conservation for public use as forest preserve.

The two parcels in the Herkimer County town of Ohio contain two reservoirs and have trout fishing, lean-tos, foot trails and a snowmobile trail system.

The plan needs approval from the Adirondack Park Agency.

Ohio is 75 miles northwest of Albany.

    Here:

--"Pete You***?!, Pete You***'s grandson?!...That name is nearly sacred & uttered with awe in THIS house!" : The late Dr. Reed's wife, upon entering her house & being introduced- so to converse with her husband about the old days, a little before he died. The kind of greeting you'll never forget & reinforces your image of the hero you never met. --

Geez, judging by the condition of those two dams, there hasn't been any 'canal control' for at least 75 years or more. Nothing like a timely deal, wonder what they were waiting for?
