Thank you for all the great info and the nice pictures. I am looking forward to breaking out the snowshoes and climbing Hadley this winter. As for the rain it looked like it might stop a little while ago but alas, it's raining again. -
Hadley Mt.
A terrific hike. If the weather is good, there may be many people. About 1550 feet of vertical over about 2 miles. Path is moderate, on a lot of bare bedrock, which is easy on the feet. Climbs from the register to about 2/3 of the way up when it hits a ridge. On the ridge for a little bit, then it resumes a moderate pitch to the summit. Good views off to the left on the final approach. There is a ranger's cabin off to the right before you begin the last little bit to the summit. Great views 360 degrees from the summit - don't need to climb the firetower to get them. FT will probably be closed this time of year.
With my son, I climbed it in about an hour and 15 minutes and came down in under and hour. With the scouts - and their newbie moms - a little longer, but all were able to go up and down.
One of my favorites. A gem.
Here are some pictures taken in March on a snow shoe ascent.
I hope the sun is shining - or at least the rain stops and the clouds liftLast edited by RonandJon; 10-15-2005, 11:29 AM.Leave a comment:

No water crossings. The road is well maintained, but I have not been on it lately. should be no problem with your vehicle. In dry weather it's an easy ascent. In wet weather it will be slick in spots. Especialy coming back down.Originally posted by wanderingspiritHello to all the members of ADK Forum. First time posting to the site. I would like to hike this Sunday in the southern 'daks, most likely Hadley Mountain, and need some information. First of all, with all the rain, how hard of a hike would this be? Are there any water crossings that may be tricky? And how well is the dirt road going to the trail head maintained, do you think it will be passable by two wheel drive vehicles? Great site, and I hope this will be the first post of many!
